Report: Byron Scott to become Cavaliers Head Coach

The Cavaliers are currently negotiating a contract with Byron Scott, according to a report from ESPN.

Broussard reports that Scott will be Cleveland's next head coach.

Earlier on Wednesday, Brian Windhorst of the Plain-Dealer reported that Brian Shaw was beginning to assemble a coaching staff and would be bringing the Triangle offense to Cleveland if a deal was reached.

Windhorst confirms Broussard's report of the Cavaliers moving forward with Scott.

Brian Shaw's agent has told FanHouse that he withdrew his name from consideration.

Do you think that Shaw removing his name means that he's taking over for Phil this year? That is, if the rumors are true.

This is how i see it

Cleveland wanted Scott.
Scott dont want to go right away if he could go to the Lakers
Cleveland dose not want to wait for him so they talk to Shaw
Phil i coming back so Scott is free.
Scott does nott want to wait another year afther the Lakers job so he goes to Cleveland.
Phils tels Shaw to come back and he will be the head coach next season after we 3peat

if shaw had his name in there, and then withdrew his name due to the LAKER position becoming open in the future, that is not a wise choice. you gotta go with the cavalier job and build your own resume from there.

you do NOT want to follow in the footsteps of a legend.

1) Indications are that health (based on ESPN Rumor Insider report citing Ken Berger of CBS) won't be a concern for Phil and he is expected the go-ahead from the docs.

2) Scott initially being the front runner for Cle then going on "pause" either means he was waiting on the LA job or waiting on CLE to up the ante...after all, once Izzo said no, the Cavs were down to Byron and Byron. Adding Shaw to the mix not only gave them a legit up and comer coach candidate but also lit the fire for Byron to hurry up. My guess is that Shaw would have taken the CLE job if he had the chance in case the FO for LA pushed for Scott instead of Shaw in the event Phil left.

So as long as Phil is still around, I definitely don't care who is coaching anywhere, that bridge will get crossed when it has to.

Interesting read on Brian Shaw's thoughts after meeting with Cavs front office for a couple days. Seems like he was bothered by the lack of attention they gave to the possibility of LeBron not returning to Cleveland.

Either way glad to have B. Shaw back on the bench for next season.
Thank you, Phil.
