As for the implications for the Lakers, they're still saying Phil Jackson will let them know whether he is returning or not on Friday

He's staying............... History shows he wins his titles in 3s. Anybody who thinks he is leaving his team that he has built for all these years without trying to threepeat is crazy. He will be back.

I would love to see Scott here. He would bring a new system. The tri is so old, be nice to see something new so not everyone knows what we are always doing.

Phil is not the key to a 3peat. I wish people in the media would stop saying give Phil anything on the planet he wants. "Dear Lakers management: let the man take his time"-- He's not doing too bad considering to what we have seen before. I actually wouldn't mind if the old guy goes off to Montana to retire in the bosoms of dear Jeanie. Dangit he deserve it.

Phil was very important for establishing the winning spirit and the winning system. But with the quality of guys we are retaining, we can keep that going. The only reason why his departure last time resulted in Lakers not making it far was because: 1) new coach that didn't come from the core of assistants. 2) Core players left or retired.

This time, we still have our core guys, and whoever will replace phil (if he leaves) will be one of the assistants (Shaw).

Anyway with all that said, Phil is coming back... yah he is... he's gotta want the fourth 3peat...

Part of me was wondering if he was waiting to see how free agency played out

What if Phil agrees to comeback but Shaw is coming back for transition. Kinda like what happened in Dallas with Avery.

John Ireland on 710AM ESPN Radio just confirmed that Phil Jackson is coming back via L.A Lakers Newsletter.

He also said that Phil clearly stated that this will be his last run as Laker head coach.

Edit: Double confirmed on Lakers Website:
