Fish isn't going anywhere.

Post#1 » by Edrees » Fri Jul 2, 2010 12:53 am

Did you guys forget the reason he CAME to LA in the first place? His poor daughter (I continue to wish her the best) is receiving treatment in LA, and the only other place he can get it is NY. Why are people even questioning whether he's gonna return to the Lakers? I think people forget about this detail when they do that. Or has his daughter beaten it (would be great news) I'd just like more information on the situation, seems like I'm out of the loop since I thought he was an automatic resign considering his attachment to kobe and phil plus the issue with his daughter.

Whose questioning whether Fish will return? I agree, he's not going anywhere. Its just a matter of him and Buss agreeing on a price. I heard he wants somewhere in the neighborhood of $5mm per (not sure how many years he wants). That's too much IMHO (and I'm Fish's biggest fan). In the end, Buss can just call Fish's bluff b/c no team will give him $5mm per for any length of contract.

Oh, and I think his daughter is recovering. She just has to go for regular check-ups IIRC.

This is a business, if the Lakers try to short change Fish he'll leave......it's as simple as that. Look his wife is from here and it's not like he sold his first home he had, when you have NBA cash check'in into another crib is nothing. The health care for his daughter is taken care of, the wife can stay if need be. But Fish is the ultimate family man....where he goes the fam goes.

So if it came down to him raising up outta here again don't think he'll be a punk about it.

Think Fish would be freaking pissed if LA gave Mike Mill 5y/30 but lowballed him?

Seriously. I really wish Fisher would retire and join the coaching staff or something. He'd be a great addition and remain part of the organization, which is what I really want for him for all he's done for us. His time has come and gone though.

It's time Fish. It's time.

There are many things that are gonna factor into negotiations here.
First off the Lakers already know Fish only wants to play for them!
This gives the Lakers slight leverage
What Fish and his agent will do is go out and get another offer or two so this helps set his value
The problem is i'm not sure if any other teams will be so willing to offer more than lets say $2Million
The Lakers plan on signing another PG regardless and once this happens the pressure is on Fish
The Lakers have the utmost respect for Fish and want to do right by him without breaking the bag

What will happen at the end of the day is Fisher will sign for 1 year for around $3 million and everyone will be happy! :-)

I would really love to have fish as the starting PG next year.

As much as I love Fish, if he doesn't budge from the $5 mil figure then let him go. The $2.5 mil the Lakers are offering is probably more than market value for him at this time. Out of loyalty, I'd say the Lakers should go as high as $3 mil.
