Lakers at an Impasse with Fisher, cavs/heat interested

Figure its all just posturing at this point, but the uncertainty is unsettling. Fisher is the guy who has Kobe's ear and can call him out. He is clutch. Sure he sucks during the regular season sometimes and isn't the best defender, but his value extends far beyond that. 2 yrs 7 million. Do it Mitch. Get it done.

I think Fisher will eventually take less than 5m its just posturing also this probably is happening because he's the pres of the NBAPA he can't just take the teams first low offer for him it'll look bad especially when in a yr or so they'll be negotiating the new cba.

Fisher is being unreasonable.

He is clearly not worth $5 million or anywhere near that. The guy is widely considered one of, if not the worst starting PG in the league and despite him coming through from time to time, he still hurts us more than he helps us with his bad defense and poor shooting. We all appreciate what the guy has done over the years, but he is most definitely in decline and it's time for him to take a backseat to someone else or call it a career.

It would be completely irresponsible for the FO to give a PG of his caliber anywhere near that. The guy is about the to turn 36 years old for crying out loud (my age). What is he thinking?

I just think its negotiating starting point the 5m number I think he'll come down eventually I think they'll settle around 3m or 4m.

i could already picture fisher saying " i perform in the playoffs" while playing like crap during the RS, this guy is a joke, seriously fisher do us all a favor and just sign for the lowest amount possible i bet your making all sorts of side money just being in la

The other thing to keep in mind is that Fish doesn't really have a lot of value to other teams either. I am not aware of many (if any) other teams running the triangle.

During the regular season where it is more of an up and down the court type of game, no way he starts for just about any other team than the Lakers.

Fisher is a role player who has a knack for turning it up in the playoffs. Yes, that is highly valuable, but you have to have some modicum of success in the regular season to position yourself for the postseason. Home court advantage was certainly demonstrated this year - would not have wanted to be playing game six or seven in Boston.

Fisher is to guards what Robert Horry was to forwards.

Fish take $2.5 - $3M a year for two years, call it a day, then a career.

I'd be stunned if anybody offered him more than $3 million a year. And even that would be overpaying. Much respect, Derek, but you're just not worth it.

Fisher thinks very very highly of himself. Not only does he want 5 mil a year, he also wants a multiple year contract at the tender age of 36! If he thinks he is the guy that can put the Cavs or Heat over the top, then he is dreaming. Sure, he can hit big shots, but his shooting overall is laughable at this point. As bad as his shooting is though, it still beats the hell out of his defense. If 5 mil a year is what he want, i'd much rather us sign Mike Miller and then a couple of cheap PGs who are willing to take the minimum. Give me Ridnour or Earl Watson with Mike Miller and I would still be very happy.

This is only an anonymous source. For all we know it could be a friend of Derek's friend overhearing something and make up a story about it without getting the full picture. Besides, this is negotiation, of course you demand as much as possible initially then tone it down to an agreeable point. Fisher will not get 5 mil/year from us or anyone else so there shouldn't be any concerns.

Meh it's all part of dealing... if fisher said he wanted 3 million they'd offer him 1.2 if he says 5 mil they offer him 2.2
