Magic: 'That's not what we were about'

Add Magic Johnson voice to fellow Hall of Famer Michael Jordan's: Neither ever thought of combining forces the way LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh did earlier this month with the Miami Heat.

"We didn't think about it cause that's not what we were about," Johnson said at Baruch College in New York, according to Bloomberg News. "From college, I was trying to figure out how to beat Larry Bird."

Last weekend, Jordan said at a celebrity golf event that he never would have played with Johnson or Larry Bird, his two main rivals during his playing days.

"There's no way, with hindsight, I would've ever called up Larry [Bird], called up Magic [Johnson] and said, 'Hey, look, let's get together and play on one team,'" Jordan said after playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Nevada. The interview aired on the NBC telecast of the event. "But that's ... things are different. I can't say that's a bad thing. It's an opportunity these kids have today. In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys."

Johnson added on Tuesday: "It was never a question in our mind because nobody has ever done that."

Wade re-signed with Miami, while James and Bosh joined the Heat via free agency earlier this month.

I might be stoned to death for saying this but.....over the years, Ive become a Magic Johnson hater. I looked up to this guy...but the things he gets away with saying as an analyst and tv personality while being part owner of the Lakers makes me sick. What he did to Isaiah was low class (not that I like Isaiah)...oh anywys, and going back to that particular comment, spot on.
Yes, im posting all over again!

Good read of our daily dosage of Lebron to Miami talk.

I'm glad Magic low blow'd Isaiah, I would have too when he tried to imply Magic probably had unusual sexual experiences. Plus it seem's you don't know the scoop on Isaiah's dirt and funny sh*t he did. I'm surprise Magic waited as long as he did.......but I was glad as hell he did come with it on Isaiah.

What's been surprising to me over the years is how unintelligent Magic sounds. I guess it was stupid of me to think that a fantastic basketball player would sound somewhat intelligent and insightful.

Remember when Magic tried to host his own show? My God, I get shivers down the back of my neck thinking of that.

I love Magic for who he was and what he did for the Lakers, but outside of the basketball court...

Good luck to the magic. I really do not care what they do. I am a Lakers fan and my attention is there. I know what they did and want to do. I can only follow one team with all my heart.

On the real....this is funny as hell. First MJ, then Bird, now Magic. Heat fans are pissed on the GB Board.

Big Game this is just the start, imagine when these same guys are asked during the season about it.........again ! Honestly what the hell did they expect, they teamed up and only James is taking the flak. They're not questioning Wade, Bosh was never on their radar anyway as one they though was "great".

Heat fan wanna to be hard, but they get all super sensitive when their team is brought up in a negative light. Can't be hard when your heart and ears are soft as cotton.

Not to be a douche but I dont think you realized that this thread is about Magic Johnson and Not Orlando Magic.

Back to topic.

I have read a lot of posts and thread on G.B and I cant believe that CERTAIN posters are attaking and bashing M.J Barkley and Magic for calling Lefail out .

I see posts like Magic couldnt have won sh11t without Kareem or Jordan's a has been and he is jealous of Lefail or Barkley is a nobody to talk. I have never even heard of Cavs fans talking this way. I thought Cavs fans or Cs fans were bad, BUT DAMMM. Heat fans by far are out of control and they havent even won sh11t yet.

+1

Some of the posts I've been reading from Heat fans blindly defending anything/everything to do with LeBron and D. Wade is starting to kill the GB for me. For the past two weeks it's been watered down with LeBron threads and Heat bandwagon fans.

lol all of a sudden the greatest point guard is overrated according to heat fans man F them, point is when you have hall of famers questioning the integrity of the game and your mentality you have a problem, and in the Jordan video he talked about he would play in this era to face Kobe imagine them going at it that would be amazing

I agree with Magic. However it will be kinda cool to see LeBron get like 18 12 and 10 every night. Just sayin...

He had every right to do that to Thomas. If you heard what he said about Magic, hell I would have said the same thing Magic did. Thomas puts the UPID in stupid....lol

After all of this, I've become a much bigger fan of Kobe but all this MJ, Magic, Barkley stuff is silly. The reason they are saying it is to have their excuse ahead of time in case they do win more rings than them, which they don't even need to do. You guys love it because it makes the team that threatens you the most look stupid, Miami hates it because it makes them look stupid. I don't know why former legendary players need to come out and talk about it like they need to justify why they will still be better even if they don't end up with more rings. We all know MJ, Magic, Bird, Barkley and plenty of others are in a league of their own, all this just seems silly to me. Now I'll go back to talking about my team's franchise saving Tony Battie signing.

lol... I remember that. What a train wreck that show was.

Magic's my favorite player, but he's not exactly the most intelligent guy I've ever heard (in terms of communication ability), that's for sure.
