Who do u think we can get for........
Who or what do u think we can get for Sasha and Luke Walton???? I think we might be able to land a decent bench player for Sasha's expiring contract who do you think we can get for Luke??? I think for now Luke might not be trade-able. You guys think we can land some decent players for these 2 guys.

Re: Who do u think we can get for........
sasha is a double edged sword. if he plays like crap, few teams will want him. the ones that do will only want him for the expiring factor. but then we have literally no other back up true shooting guard on the squad. so i guess we would have to trade him for a back up sg.
on the other hand, if he plays well, we wont want to trade him bc we would have to trade a hot sasha for another teams questionable bench sg.
the only reason luke was drafted into the nba was because the triangle offense existed. if not for the triangle, he never would have made the league. so i guess that means minn is our only possible trade partner for him. (still a stretch i know)

Might be able to get a solid piece for Sasha's expiring, but the Lakers are stuck with Luke for another couple of years.

From a fans' point of view the more on the roster the better since players go harder at it in practice and bring the best out of each other while competing for minutes. As long as there is no sulker in the locker room it'll be good.
From the owner's point of view I wouldn't mind trading them for 2nd round picks in 2099 as long as someone else pays their salary for next season.

Re: Who do u think we can get for........
Sasha played well last contract year. Look for him to play well again. I would caution against rushing to trade Sasha.
If we are going to trade him, we should wait towards the deadline to see wheat he brings. Don't forget we never really solved the problem of a sizeable 3pt shooter at the SG/SF position. Ebanks is not a knock down shooter, and as for Barnes, we don't know if he will be that deadly shooter for this team. Blake could shoot but he is a PG. We dont wanna take that threat away from the PG spot, and we need someone with good length that can slide into SF and knock down threes at certain points in the game.
I personally would wait on Sasha until after the season starts. Besides, cant we let the contract slide off the books to save the money? Must we really take on another lenghty contract?

I dont really mean to single you out, I see people voice this sentiment a lot, but I just don't get why any fan would ever say this. I mean its not like its coming out of our pockets. Obviously the Lakers are the most profitable franchise in the league, and if Buss can afford to pay all these players,he is definitely making infinitely more than that. Tens of millions more than that per year. Why do fans care about spending money on players at all? Especially if it will improve the team.

^ The fans care because it causes the FO to entertain offers for someone like Odom. While I do believe they wouldn't trade him easily, someone like LO might not appreciate that coming off back to back wins.

Well its part of the fun of being into the NBA... you dont just sit and watch a game, eat popcorn and fall asleep on your beer...
You follow players, player transaction, plus drafts. You discuss possible trades, best fit scenarios, you analyze in-game use of the triangle while its happening, and yah.... you deal with salary cap issues as if you know what's best for the owner. Its all part of the fun. Who gives a $hit what Buss makes? I mean... We have become too NBA-smart such that limiting our minds to just the actual games have become boring. Dig your brain into some salary cap difficulty. It makes $hit more interesting you know...

ya, i thought it was actually hysterical when you all were saying in the beginning of the off season that we weren't going to use our MLE this year because we needed to save the money. what a freaking joke. the luxury tax is obviously irrelevant to buss.
so if you want to play penny-pincher make believe, the lakers probably aren't the best team to do it with. perhaps sacramento, but not LA.

Nobody is gonna take Luke straight-up, he's more valuable in our system than he would be anywhere else.
I think if Sasha will be moved it'll be at the deadline.

BTW... I don't think Buss is the type of owner to not let his GM do the JOB. With that said, Mitch has given every indication this offseason and last offseason that the Lakers do care about their spending. Probably not as much as other teams but they do care.
If Laker FO didn't care then why the heck would they let guys like Reddick, Tmac, Miller, Lin, Childress, Morrow, RajaBell, etc go to other teams. Do you think that Mitch doesn't know Raja is exactly what we need? Why wont they just pay Raja the extra money to come to LA? And don't tell me its because guys like that do not ultimately want to play in LA. Why did Mitch only carry 13 players last season? Why let the Morrison Contract slide off the books instead of trading it for something better?
Bottomline is: Buss is a spender, but not the careless spender you are making him out to be. The luxury tax is very damn relevant to the Laker organization.

Youre right! The luxury taxes make Sasha and everyother scrub on the bench salary twice what it really is.
How would you like to pay twice the amount of car insurance or something and have no more coverage than you have if just payed for 1 times the amount.
Its like giving away money.

"Bell, 34, was supposed to meet with longtime adversary Kobe Bryant on Wednesday, but opted instead for a three-year contract worth a reported $10 million from the Jazz.
The most the Lakers could have offered was $1.77 million next season, the remaining amount of their mid-level exception." LA Times
Mike Miller got $5 mil per, we couldn't match that.
Reddick got $7 mil per, we couldn't match that.
Obviously Mitch wanted to replace the crappy bench we had with 3 players not just one big name. The only thing we had avaiable to us was the MLE and the Vet min. and guess what we spent the full amount of both of them.
With that said, Mitch has given every indication this offseason and last offseason that the Lakers do care about their spending.
Really? how so, to me it looked like he gave the indication that we spent every single dime available to be spent.
If you want to talk about caps and luxury taxes, I'm down. Do some research first though.

You are looking at it from the wrong angle. This isn't car insurance to Buss. Sasha and Luke's contracts are EVIDENCE that he doesn't give a damn how much it costs, if the GM thinks it will help the team win, Buss is willing to pay it.

Re: Who do u think we can get for........
You are making my point. The fact that Lakers are limiting spending to what is available according to the rules ...shows that the FO does care very much about spending. I hope you know that lakers could go above and beyond to sign any player as long as they pay the extras...
Even though lakers are over, which basically seems like the riceipe for winning chips these days, how come Mitch hasn't gone even further beyond. I mean the players are available and the money grows on farm behind Buss' mansion right?
man quit making my point. I don't have the energy...
