with powell leaving, his roster spot most def goes to caracter as an extra big we need.....sooo who gets the last spot ebanks, who has potential and you guys claim can play excellent d right off the bat......or do you guys think we should use shannon brown's bird rights to resign him?......shannon brown is more athletic, doesn't play a lick of d, but he does bring finals experience..they both can't shoot...sooo who do we sign for the last spot?

Ebanks over shannon since he is going to be a really good player off the bench with barnes and we can get him for a lower price

Fisher/Blake
Kobe/Barnes/Sasha
Artest/Luke/Ebanks
Pau/Lamar/Caracter
Bynum/Ratliff
.... don't we have 2 spots open (even though Buss might only want to carry 13? And is Ebanks a 2 or a 3 (haven't seen any summer league games). Sasha could maybe run the point and still sign Shannon?

Ebank cos he is cheaper... Ebanks is a 3 if he had more of an offensive game I would see him in at a 2. He is 6'9 and during the NCAA Tourney he was assigned to guard John Wall. John Wall is probably the fastest PG in the NBA right now. So he has the speed to guard 2 and 3s.

I never undertood the fascination with second rounders that do well in college and summer league versus NBA experienced players like Brown. I take Brown any day because I already know what he brings.

Neither. Let Ebanks play in the D-League for a while or send him overseas, our roster is set IMO.

Good question.

he only brings 2 or 3 alley oops, but at least he brings them. when was the last time one of our second rounders made a difference in the roster? even Ammo who killed last year in summer league was the butt of jokes to everyone. all I'm saying is I don't see a reason to get exited unless he is proven. not to say that is proven, but at least we know he has a years experience in the system and brings 2 or 3 alley oops.

If it comes down to the two of them I would have to say Brown. As annoyed as I get with Brown at times because of his inconsistency, his energy has proven to be a momentum changer. I feel like this time around if Brown is back and we run him in a lineup of Blake/Brown/Barnes/Odom, he won't make as many mistakes as he did in the past.

we could bring both on if Either Sasha or Walton are some how off the team

, Sasha via trade or Luke via retirement

I think Shannon does actually play some D and his energy shifting plays are almost worth it. He also seems to be getting better. That being said- Barnes might do that for us and Ebanks too, so I say give Ebanks a shot to become a stopper and a slasher and more length.

i say stick with the experience in SB. but at 6'9" and the speed and athletic ability of Devin, that may be something to think about. but like Asianiac_24 said, let him loose in the D League for a year.

I'd sign Ebanks --> more upside. He is going to end up as Ariza 2.0. Id take Ariza anyday over Shannon. Shannon has no upside IMO. Besides the dunking, where are those things that don't show up on the stat sheet? Non-existent!
edit: Danny made a good point. The dunks do energize the team... that's something that don't show up on stat sheets... but even with that, i see Ebanks as a scrappier player with more natural hustle in him. I just see a good upside if he is allowed to settle in. With Barnes (>>Shannon) on the team, the upside is worth exploring...

Walton won't be playing much, so it's perfectly fine to keep them both. If he's legit, Ebanks will have a chance throughout the season to prove that he deserves more PT than Brown.

I read Mitch is fine with a 14 man roster meaning both could be signed.

Looks like the Lakers want to sign both but Ebanks will spend the bulk of next season in Bakerfield with the Jam.

^ 14 man would be ideal since Luke Walton is hurting. They could always try and trade one in February if tax is a concern. Anyone know how much LA's payroll is now (if you include the minimum pay 2nd rd guys)?
