How does our bench stack up with the rest of the league

Post#1 » by Newtonslee » Sat Jul 31, 2010 7:01 pm

After checking the lakers stats at insidehoops., i realized that the lakers were ranked 1st in starting five and 26th in bench. this is due to a couple of reasons.

1) Starting five was so good that we needed little of the bench
2) Our bench didnt play alot together as they did with in 08 (bench Mob) this time, it always like 2 or three bench with 2 or three starters on the floor cuzz bench was weak. the only consistent bench were lamar**** and shanon brown. There were about 8 teams that was both in the top ten ranked starting five at the same time as been a top ten ranked bench. so now that we have to our bench, atleas three guys who can start for most teams in the league how do i bench compare to the rest of these teams.

(STARTERS RANK LAST YEAR) TEAM (BENCH RANK LAST YEAR)

P. G. ..Steve Blake (good all around point guard that can shoot. Will be playing starter’s minutes)
S. G.. ..Sasha Vujavic / Shannon Brown / Delonte West (we still need a good 3pt shooter)
S. F.. .. Matt Barnes ( A defensive specialist who is a good Slasher, great pick)
P. F.. ..Lamar (Mr. do it all can start for any team in the NBA. Team USA will boost his confidence)
C.. ..THEO RATLIFF (Gasol and Bynum always runs with bench except during foul trouble)

Really difficult to tell.
Because of the fact that it takes a while to get used to the triangle offense, i wouldn't judge our bench based on talent alone.

With that said, there is no real way too judge this bench until the season actually starts. I would only go as far to say that out bench will be top 10.

Well.... in conclusion: many teams are going to have really good bench-mobs... but the thing is that their starters aren't that far off from their bench in terms of talent.... I just hope that our bench is up there in the ranks. It doesn't matter if they are the baddest bench or not (see lase season Phoenix suns)

Way to early to judge the bench. Will the 2 second round picks make it. Who is the last on the bench. Will there be 13 or 14 players.

Good thing is Adam Morrison is gone. So any playing time from his spot will be a bonus. It is up in the air. We need a better bench to give some of the starters some rest down the line.

Just so many things can happen. This question should be asked about game 30 of the regular season. It takes time and games to see who is best.

Morrison was just pathetic. When you're a 3rd pick overall, and you can't beat out the Lakers reserve perimeter players, then you need to look into the mirror. Guys like Brown and Vujacic aren't impossible to beat out. Morrison should have been able to beat them out for minutes.

Our bench is very solid now

But remember

When you have all the elements of a championship team (you have to be 8 deep), 2 things will win it for you DEFENSE AND SUPERSTARS

Some people think that Ratliff is going to be play a big role. He was brought in for insurance. Rest assured that Odom, Gasol, and Bynum are going to gobble up the 96 available minutes at PF and C. Injuries would be the thing that forces Ratliff into the rotation.

If you get Delonte West he would definitely beat out Blake and Fisher at point. West is a better point in general, a legit starter, and he fits the triangle offense perfectly.

Unless you believe what that maggot wrote for BSPN, you're in denial if you think our bench isn't better.

And that is REALLY all that matters, not how our Bench compares to Other Teams, heck, there are plenty of Teams that have better Benches and way Worse Starters.

Just like Phil is quick to pull Bynum for Odom, so that either Bynum or Pau play at C the entire game, the Heat may need to do something like that..

i'll agree but its difficult to compare each teams bench, i.e. Pho, they have a great bench but they get used ALOT, SA bench #'s are way squewed because of Manu, he is a bench guy playing starter minutes and now with Hill emergences it adds to their production. I rather not compare to other team benches as long as this bench out performes last years crews and either extends leads or doesn't blow leads like last year I'll be pretty happy.

^^ that said, if manu skews SAS's bench, why shouldn't odom skew our bench either?

can't not count manu, but count odom on ours. he does manage to play 30+ mpg

lamar doesn't play that much when bynum/gasol are healthy. odom is behind both gasol/bynum in terms of talent, where as manu plays behind clearly inferior talent.

Our bench is solid, but that's fine because the starting 5 if still going to create mismatches every night.
