http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/ ... ursday.phpNBA players have a little Gollom in them -- they will do anything for the precious ring.
Shannon Brown's agent Mark Bartelstein told the New York Post that Brown is leaning towards returning to the Lakers and will make his announcement Thursday.
The Knicks offered one year at $2.7 million (they want to keep cap space flexibility for next summer). The Lakers offered less money but more years.
Brown also would have a larger role with New York, if not as the starting two guard then as the first guard off the bench. In Los Angeles Brown would be Kobe Bryant's backup, which would not mean nearly as many minutes (he averaged 20.7 a game last year).
But the Lakers could offer another shot at a ring.
"The Knicks did a great job selling Shannon on everything and their vision for him,'' Bartelstein said. "They did a great job but the chance to go back and win a third championship for the Lakers is a tough thing to pass up. He'll make a final decision (Thursday).''

I think we still need some athleticism on this team, so this is a needed resigning.

It will be good to have him back.
I think he can still improve as a defender and he showed last year when Kobe was out that he could be productive at the two and the Lakers still play excellent basketball.

Better him than nothing, but saying that we were playing excellent basketball with him at sg is exaggerating...

I like this. We need his athleticism off the bench. If I'm not mistaken we are the oldest team in the league even though most of our guys are around 30. Shannon gives us some youthful energy.

The Celtics are the oldest team in the league and I think the Spurs are also older than the Lakers.

Just the other day ESPN released the team averages with LA #1 and Boston #2 but I'm not sure if that was pre or post Shaq.

Probably Pre-Shaq. Once we sign Brown and our Rookies we'll be younger (although Ratliff doesn't help).
Shannon knows that every year he is here and improves, he will get more and more PT in the regular season as Kobe's #s go down.

i agree he's a good spark off the bench. i like shannon, but i would want him to use his physical attributes and find ways to drive to the basket and get to the line more often... rather than settling for the jump-shot.

Well if he re-signs, he has a few years to do that.

No surprise. It's just hard to believe that 2007 bench mob was just that... 2007. Vujacic and Walton are the last ones left, and they're probably not getting minutes this year.
I'm really hoping our new bench mob has some longevity to it.

nice link.
http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/n ... id=5440224The Lakers and free agent point guard Shannon Brown have agreed on a two-year contract worth $4.6 million, Brown's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Thursday morning.
"Shannon could have made more money somewhere else, but I think he really wanted to play this out with the Lakers," Bartelstein said. "They've won it [all] two years in a row and the chance to win three straight [championships] doesn't come around every day."
Brown is likely the last piece of the Lakers' offseason puzzle. Though the negotiations took longer than expected, he and the team had expressed a desire to work a deal. Brown strongly considered the New York Knicks and New Orleans Hornets. The Lakers also considered free agent guards such as Raja Bell.
Brown had opted out of the second year of his previous deal with the Lakers, which would've paid him $2.15 million next season. He will again have a player option in the second year of this contract.
I'd prefer if we signed him to a third year.

For anyone who cares that guarantees us a roster of:
Kobe
Pau
Bynum
Odom
Artest
Luke
Blake
Fish
Shannon
In the year 2011/2012 with Barnes having a Player Option and a total salary of around 90 million not including Barnes' contract.
