Phil only needs 2 stars?

Post#1 » by shaankle » Mon Oct 4, 2010 2:13 am

My friend and I were talking, and he brought up an interesting theory about coaches winning championships in recent years.

He said that Phil is the only coach who has won a championship with only 2 real stars (MJ/Pippen, Shaq/Kobe, Kobe/Pau).

The other championship coaches required at least 3:

-Doc (Rondo/Allen/Pierce/KG)
-Pat (Wade/Shaq/Alonzo)
-Brown (Billups/Hamilton/Wallace)
-Popovich (Robinson/Duncan/Parker/Ginobli)

Even if you think way back to the showtime era, there was Magic/Kareem/Worthy.

I think that really says something about PJ... Greatest coach of all time, but also the luckiest coach of all time (when it comes to WHO he coached).

PJ has always had the ability to make his role players better than what they really are.

if you consider a 40 year old Alonzo Mourning a star then the answer is no.

lol yeah Zo is not a star on that Miami team and no one on the Pistons team was a star either.

Larry Brown is probably the only coach that has won without stars.

My best Antoine Walker moment was him taking a 3 and hitting it on a 2 on none break against Mavs in 3rd quarter of game 5 of the 2006 finals.

Riley had a strange look that can only mean "You better be glad you made that".

Not at that time. They never even made the all star team if I'm not wrong until the next season.

What about the Rockets first championship? Only 1 star (Hakeem) needed. Second championship had only two stars (Hakeem and Clyde).

Yeah, that's why I think he said in recent years.

WRONG! :(

It was karl being out and not enough time to build a good team cohesiveness together with the constant kobe going to court (stupid girl) and various injuries

I never liked the 04 lakers, imo we won games because we're a extremely talented team.

Dude get real. Tayshaun Prince absolutely destroyed Kobe Bryant in those finals.

To see one guy completely demolish a player of Kobe's caliber was just amazing and imo is arguably the shutdown of the decade.

^ Tay destroying Kobe is amusing. First I hear this on RealGM, which is quite an accomplishment.

4 Guaranteed Hall of Famers in the starting lineup was alot of ego's to balance.

I still believe we would of beat Detroit that year if Karl Malone was 100% healthy.

Nonetheless, everybody went their separate ways after that season.

Kobe being the most successful out of the 4 .

you serious???

damn im shocked everyone who saw those finals that wasnt a homer knows that tayshaun prince shutdown kobe.

yes kobe had that great game 2 but thats all he got.

how tayshaun shutdown kobe blew me away because well come on kobe is a top 5 or 10 player so it was just crazy to see that happening.

Kobe was playing against a Pistons zone swarming him on any chance he gets into the paint so it wasn't a one on one shutdown job by any means. On the other side he was chasing Hamilton around screens and switching onto Billups whenever he started getting hot. Tay played him well but lets not twist this any more than its already been.
