The Renegades (bench)

It's only two games into the regular season, and Lakers Coach Phil Jackson has already assigned the team's bench a nickname. They're "Renegades."
"I gave it to them," Jackson said Saturday after practice at the Lakers' facility in El Segundo. "They're getting a sense of how to play together."
That includes Steve Blake, Shannon Brown and Matt Barnes, a trio KCAL-9's Stu Lantz and a few L.A. Times Lakers blog readers described as "Killer B's." Beyond this settling a long debate or perhaps furthering it within this corner of the blogosphere, it's not so much important what nickname Jackson has assigned the reserves so much as that his willingness to do it so early in the season shows his satisfaction with the team's overall play. Jackson limited Saturday's practice solely to the reserves, a unit he says will feature more unspecified playing time from Devin Ebanks and Sasha Vujacic possibly as early as Sunday against the Golden State Warriors.
Dictionary.com defines "renegade" as a "person who deserts a party or cause for another," hardly a quality trait you'd want to have in a teammate. But the Lakers see it differently.
"When you think of renegade, you think of someone who's almost mean, but going out there and getting the job done," Brown said. "They're fierce. They don't play many games, but they're close knit together. They won't let nobody mess with them."

http://lakersblog.latimes.com/The Renegades or the Killer B's, however you wanna call them, have been fantastic for the Lakers. It's only been two games, but if this is what we're gonna be seeing from them in the future, our outlook is very good. I love the hustle and intensity that Barnes gives, crashing the boards, and always thinking each shot is a missed shot. He's also a streaky shooter who can get hot at any moment. Blake's decision making, shooting, and passing have been excellent and is a welcome back-up to Fisher, who is really hurting the Lakers more than helping them. I love Fisher, but I just question his play on the court. Brown... what an improvement from the outside. I mean, before his thumb injury last season, he was on point as well, but this new-look Brown has better decision making than before, and it's great to see that he worked on his game this off-season.

The bench has been the most exciting thing this season and I think it will be my favorite thing about the Lakers this season. I personally love the Killer B's nickname. This could be the best bench unit the Lakers have had in years. The bench during our 2007 - 2008 run was pretty solid but it doesn't come close to what this bench is potentially capable of at full strength. These guys are going to remind the Lakers what they are after because they are so hungry for that ring.

Love these guys so far and they have great attitudes. One thing you have to give Mitch credit for is he has really brought in high quality guys. Barnes is a bit crazy at times, but he's a smart guy and a real pro. Shannon has worked his ass off, and Blake is a smart solid gut too.
Only thing I am worried about right now though is our big depth. DC is ok, but he's a little under sized and far from ready. Theo is a nice pickup and a high quality hustle guy that will do his job and not go outside the system, but he's up there in age and he doesn't have much offense at all. When Pau isn't on the floor our post game is really weak and if Kobe and Ron aren't in there it turns very perimeter oriented. As good as the 3 Bs are, there will be nights when those shots aren't falling and they will be very up and down like last few years. We really need Drew to be healthy so Pau and LO aren't burnt out and so the Killer B's have some more balance on the floor.
I really think we need to make a move with Sasha's contract for another decent big, just not that many out there unfortunately. Hopefully Drew's knee will hold up.
But yeah it is so nice to see these guys play so far, so much better then Farmar, Luke, and Sasha ugh..

The great thing about our bench is that they actually play well on the road and can get the lead and also keep it, they're going to help us limit Kobe and Fish and when LO goes to the bench it's going to be great I'm so excited lol 3peat here we come

Bynum comes back will add another B, and it might be on the bench to start the season if we are winning.

For someone that comes across as so brash and hard, Barnes seems to be pretty smart from his words.

Both of them nicknames are iLL to me.
First thing that pops into my mind when hearing them is Jay and EM's "RENEGADE off "The Blueprint" and Wu-Tang Clan, 36 Chambers. lol

I've been very pleased with the way the Renegades have been playing as well.
The biggest thing for me is moving the ball and working within the system. The new guys are doing a great job of that, and when you knock down shots it's just the cherry on top.
Looking forward to another great season.
