it's about time. since he is the nba logo, i would love to see the statue in the same position as the logo.

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Lakers will unveil a statue honoring Hall of Fame guard Jerry West during this season's NBA All-Star weekend, multiple sources confirmed to ESPNLosAngeles.com.
Los Angeles is the host city for All-Star weekend, running from Feb. 18-20.
West retired as the Lakers all-time leading scorer before Kobe Bryant eclipsed his point total of 25,192 points during the 2009-10 season. Known as "Mr. Clutch" during his playing days, West won a championship with the Lakers in 1972 and holds the distinction of being the only player in league history to be named NBA Finals MVP while playing on the losing team (1969). West was a 14-time NBA All-Star and was named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history in 1996.
West transitioned from Lakers backcourt to the front office and worked for the team as the head coach and a scout before being named general manager prior to the 1982-83 season. With West as the GM, the Lakers went on to win seven championships and he was named NBA Executive of the Year in 1995.
The statue will be the fifth to be erected at Staples Center and the third that is Lakers-related, following Wayne Gretzky, Magic Johnson, Oscar De La Hoya and broadcaster Chick Hearn.

What about Wilt Chamberlain? He got the same rings in LAL than West!
Besides he's been greater (my personal opinion)

Well Jerry West is "the icon" of NBA. he deserves a statue.

What a coincidence. Here we are bitching about West not having a statue (in the Kobe statue thread) and BOOM, Lakers announce that The Logo will get his. Clearly, the Buss family has a secret spy on RealGM.

Does the team have to shell out for it, or are these statues paid for by AEG/Staples group? Gretzky I can understand the Kings buying, but who paid for the de la Hoya statue?

Overdue, well deserved, and thank you to the Lakers org.
Is this announcement setting a precedent on what it takes and how long it will take for Kobe to get his statue? Meaning we will see a Kareem statue loooong before we ever see a Kobe statue?

I rather see something different, we all seen and know that image.....anyways we shoud boot Oscar out of there, his statue belongs in his home town not the staple center, I mean how many times did he even box at Staples?

I know I'm not the only one that thinks this but I'll say it anyway, it's been long over due for Mr. Logo.
To also echo Sedale Threatt from an earlier post, Kareem should have one. No doubt.
How about another LAker HOF, Big Game James?!

I think the only other Lakers that will get a statue will be Abdul-Jabbar and Bryant.
