SERIES HISTORY

The Lakers won last season’s series with Utah 3-1 and have now taken each of the last
four season series from the Jazz: 2006-07 (2-1), 2007-08 (3-1), 2008-09 (2-1), 2009-10
(3-1). The Jazz and Lakers have met 150 times in the regular season (96-54) and 131
times since the Jazz moved to Utah (83-49). The Lakers are 7-3 in their last 10 regular
season games with the Jazz.

KEYS TO WINNING GAME

The Lakers must control the game tempo from the start, this will be done if they run the Triangle offense effectively by starting the offense going to Pau. He must get off to a good start against Jefferson. The Lakers must also take care of the ball, limiting turnovers will dictate how much of the tempo the Jazz will want to play at.

We all know the Jazz will rely on Deron Williams and Jefferson to start their vaunted pick and roll and pick and pop situations. To neutralize this Pau will have to be physical with Jefferson, not let him roam as freely to free up Williams and Fish must not go under the screen. The way to beat the Jazz P&R is to bump, tug and blitz it as early as possible.

Rebounding will be the ultimate factor that decides the winner of this game, the Jazz aren't the biggest team to beat on the boards. Millsap is probably their most fierce rebounder, LO must counter with energy to hold off Millsap. Winning the boards will tell how effective the Lakers will be.

KEY MATCHUP

PAU GASOL VS AL JEFFERSON

Pau has shown to have some difficulty with Jefferson simply because of Jefferson's physical style. To counter Pau must go into his offense much quicker against him. Pau has to use his size advantage and footwork to counter Jefferson's strength. Jefferson will look to get deep post position against Pau on Jazz possessions. While Pau can guard him straight up, the Lakers must be ready to offer weak side help and mix up their coverages on him during the game.

Jefferson isn't the greatest passer from the double team, smart doubles on him will put the Lakers in easy transition from his turnovers. Pau must also make Jefferson an 18 foot jump shooter most of the night, while Jefferson can turn and face playing a physical game on him should take his legs by the 4th. Which ever big can establish his will to affect this game will pretty much determine who wins.

Control the tempo of the game. Make your shots and do not turn the ball over. There house is hard to play in and even harder to win in. Might be a low scoring game and a close one. I would love a blow out. Say Lakers 110 to 85. :D

Utah has made a season of coming back from huge halftime deficits. Got to watch it out there. Put them in a hole and keep kicking them down.

Nice Game Thread Deep3!

Always a crazy game up at the Energy Solutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Jazz are playing with tons of confidence right now and the Lakers should be aware of this.

Come Strong or Don't bother coming at all.
Do Work Lakers!

Great game thread!

You pretty much listed what i felt were keys to winning the game.

Let's hope Pau is well rested for tmrw night. Both Pau and LO need to crash and handle boards. I imagine D.Williams will hit his average... but its Millsap that we need to hold down (those big games they won when they traveled East, Millsap had huge games).

Let's hope Kobe takes smart shots and not force 'em too much (we all know he likes to shoot lights out over in Utah)

Great GT DEEP. Glad we are seeing 2 physical Centers back to back because it gives Pau a chance to show whether he had a bad game or is another physical big just going to push him around again. If that happens we will not win this game.

Day after holiday, road game, could be dangerous...our guys have to come out focused and sharp.

But with that said, no excuses. Over the last three postseasons these two teams have got to know each other very well, their should be no surprises in how they execute their P n' R offense or how they try to defend the triangle.

Let's get win #14!

This is going to be a big test for our bench. Utah's bench has been solid all year long and we are also going to be at Energy Solutions which is one of the hardest places to play at.

First off thanks to all for the acknowledgements, secondly we need a big game from Ron.He's just been kinda hiding out in the weed waiting to strike, well tonight should be that night. It's no reason he can't match Milsap in any shape form or fashion. Tonight's game is going to be about everything the front line does.

Scoring, rebounding, defense, protecting the paint, this is how you annihilate this Jazz team. Last night I saw where Charles " I just say sh*t to be saying it" Barkley, said the Jazz will be a serious threat to us once Okur gets back.........really ? How in the hell is another 7 foot jump shooter going to beat us ?

I don't get why these stupid ex players can't see that they've tried that what 3 times already ? To beat us somebody is going to have to go toe to toe, face to face, man to man in the paint with us. Far as I see it's only one team equipped to do that and it's those scrubs from Bean Town.

Not that I disregard the Jazz, but until they change what they do and how they play with us, the results will be the same.......believe that.

And I love how all these boards go posting with their "voodoo" pics thinking this will get you wins. Keep thinking that, it's about two teams on the floor. These kids trip me out with this crap, meanwhile the Lakers will just continue to tap that ass.

Jay my mentality when it comes to ball is like sand paper.....rough as hell. Just man up and let's go, screw all this posting females, good luck pics and other bull crap in GT. It doesn't help and it doesn't work, it's just a facade to ease your mind of tension and nervousness.

Matt Barnes said he preferred "Killer B's" to the other bench nicknames, for the record.

I still give dcash credit for it, he rattled it off seconds before Stu did when we first got mention of the name.
