Dwight Howard has an early-termination option on the last year of his contract (2012-13) and thus can exercise it and become a free agent after the 2011-12 season.

And as Ken Berger of CBS Sports notes, there has been some indication Howard hasn't 100 percent married himself to the Magic before their trade deals on Saturday.

"People with knowledge of Howard's thinking said the superstar is on board with Orlando's moves, with one saying he's 'a big fan' of the changes," wrote Berger. "But as he grew restless over the summer about the developments in South Florida, and as the Magic were exposed in recent weeks, Howard privately already was beginning to weigh his options. Like the list of stars he wanted to join him in Orlando, he was forming another list: potential suitors for him. Two teams were on it, according to sources: the Knicks and Lakers."

Howard's agent, Dan Fegan, also told Berger this: "It's no secret that Dwight Howard is about winning a championship. A number of teams in the East have significantly upgraded their talent level. In order to compete, the trades consummated [Saturday] are important and represent a significant upgrade in talent."
So while Howard may like the team's recent changes, it's possible how they perform this year and next -- whether the Magic can contend for, or make, the NBA Finals -- may go a long way towards revealing what Howard's future holds.

Perform well, and Howard may be inclined to stay. But if they can't get the job done, the center may ultimately decided to explore other options.

Sign and trade. It's a forgone conclusion, Dwight is gonna be in PnG.

I've been barking up the "Dwight to LA" tree for years, but i doubt it happens, i would love it to take place though.

1. Fake. Made up stuff.

2. Only way we can get him is if we sign and trade Bynum for him.

Love Bynum, but if he's in a trade to get Dwight, I'd take him in a heartbeat. Hell, tallent-wise I'd give up Odom and Bynum.

It would be almost priceless to see a Kobe/Gasol/Howard lineup with a decent bench.

Mere speculation at best. There isn't enough reliable information that tells us Dwight is planning on asking to be traded, and I doubt the Lakers would exercise Drew's 2013 team option since he's not worth 16 mil, so Bynum has to be given a new contract when he goes to the Magic. The Magic will never do that.

I'd give up anything on the team except Kobe/Gasol to get Dwight. Kobe/Gasol/Dwight trio is a guaranteed championship

Pretty much, I'd say Bynum Odom is what they'd ask for.

Gasol/Dwight will just be a ridiculous front court, defensively and offensively tremendous. Pressure gets taken off Gasol and Dwight and allows them to play to their natural abilities with Gasol scoring and Dwight just hustle put backs and dunks, also takes pressure off Gasol on the defensive end. I wish. :]

Gasol/Howard would be a sick front court

Howard and Gasol would make the most perfect interior combo in the history of the game. If we can swap Bynum for Superman, we can't hesitate to pull the trigger.

It's no way the Lakers could run the Triangle with Howard, no way in hell. He's not a Tri type center because his passing skills are putrid. Howard isn't a go to type center, especially in the crunch. The offense would run shoddy with him as the interior option. Not a Howard hater just calling this as I see it. Defensively we'd punk every team in the league, that's about the only area where he has Drew beat. Offensively you can debate that all day. Howard has ZERO post moves in his arsenal, his footwork is horrific. It won't be all that smooth as many of you think.

That said it'll never happen, he and his agent are using the Lakers and Knicks as straight up bargaining chips. The mere mention of Laker is enough to make the Magic fork over whatever they have to do to retain him, or make some other team jump in on the fray just for the hell of it.

^^^what are you talking about bargining chips? , Howard getting MAX plain and simple and as for the Tri, who knows who the next coach is going to be let alone what offensive set we run.

All indications is that Brian Shaw will be the next coach, otherwise he would have taken that Cavs job. If that is the case we will continue to run the Triangle, i'm sure Kobe, Gasol, Odom, Fisher, and the rest of the guys will not want a new system when they have been running that Triangle for years.

Deep is right about D12 having horrible footwork and zero post-up move. One of the reason why Orlando is always failing because D12 is no Shaq, he isn't good enough to just win and get his team over the hump. D12 and his agent is using the Lakers because the Orlando Magic Franchise will forever have the nightmare of the summer of 1996, the fact that they mentioned Lakers is more than enough to scare Orlando into doing everything they can to not witness De Ja Vu all over again.

Both of you guys make good points but I have to agree that if jax is gone, we potentially scrap the tri. Anyways, howard to the Lakers may be a pie dream, but after this past summer it may not be as far fet ched as we all think.

I think the only way it happens is if the Magic don't get to the conference finals and the Heat dominate everyone in the playoffs. Not only the East, but the Finals too. This would mean that the Lakers faltered along the way and would then NEED howard to get back over the hump.

However, if Bynum stays healthy and WE dominate everyone instead Buss may be less likely to tinker lineup and reach into pocketbook.
