Lakers gave up a #1 pick for 35 year old Smith. Lakers could have used that pick in another trade before the deadline to get something they really could have used. Now we have a used up player that will not be here pass this season and no future players or trade assets with out this pick. Lakers GM, not going to be the GM of the year...lol

the trade wasn't about joe smith, the trade was about saving 8mil dollars. he basically sold a 1st rnd pick for 8mil when at most its usually worth 3mil, and he got some 2nd rounders as well. it was a steal.

playing Caracter over Joe Smith is a massive mistake. let the rookie ride the bench or play in the d-league.

i know it was a trade for money, but Smith needs to play at least 5-7 minutes.

dude for vujacic and and a 1st, that trade was straight thievery. the 1st round pick would be in the high 20''s. we get 2 second round picks. in the 30's. and some other dude, prolly sucks. we save 8 mil? awesome trade. if joe smith is healthy, i would like to see him get some minutes.

Lakers problem isn't playing Joe Smith or not. Kobe missing 13 straight shots is unacceptable. You'd think after missing 10 straight Phil would start calling plays for Bynum or Pau more. The Lakers biggest strength against anyone in the league is their size. Let Bynum get his minutes and touches. He was 4/4 FG last night. There's enough rotational players on the Laker bench where Joe Smith & Caracter doesnt make a difference nor should they be getting much PT.

& IMO that 1st rd pick you gave up for a high 2nd rd pick is a pretty good trade finacially. there aren't many players you'll get that will be a big difference between a low 1st to a high 2nd. Teams that are low in the 1st rd that don't need it trade it away for a 2nd rd pick all the time to save money.

I wonder if saving money will cost the Lakers some wins. At lease Sasha hit a 3 pointers now and then.

We could have saved 8 million AND gotten a servicable player out of the trade. there were better players to get for a valuable 6 million expiring contract.

lol go on, name a veteran player on the vet's minimum thats:
1. available through trade or FA
2. serviceable

Maybe if the Lakers can get a 30 point lead, Phil will put him in....

I'm looking forward to Smith playing with you guys; he's a solid vet, and can put up a few good minutes a game for you.

Take notes kiddies, this what you call knowing your facts about a trade.
