Kobe Takes Blame For Loss To San Antonio

Kobe Bryant's shot was off on Tuesday night and he took the blame for the Lakers' loss to the Spurs.

"I couldn't put the ball in the basket and it snowballed from there," Bryant said. "It's my responsibility to make them."

He was 8-for-27 from the field, including a stretch of 13 straight missed field goals.

"I just have to put the ball in the damn hole," Bryant said. "It's my responsibility, it's my job."

Before Tuesday's game between Los Angeles and San Antonio, Bryant said he was ready for the showdown but that he wasn't sure if the "rest of the guys" were up for it.

I'm going to let you guys chime in & check back, but here's part of the problem. Why does he always feel his only job is to put the ball in the hole? We have a lot of scorers that can carry the load when his shot is off.

His "job" is to find other ways when he's not scoring. Like how about playing some damn defense? Passing the ball? getting shots out of the offense, etc. Gotta run fellas, i'll check back in later.

I have no problem with missing shots, it happens. But the frustrating thing about kobe is that when his shot is obviously off, his shot volume INCREASES- which is the opposite of what smart players do (see duncan: started 1 for seven and finished 1 for 7, the key number being SEVEN not TWENTY SEVEN). It seems like a totally egotistical thing to me. He could easily penetrate, draw 2 or 3 then dish; or move down to the post, draw the double and dish, or actually make a post entry pass to bynum. The problem is that he simply refuses to do so.

Yep, great article.

Coming into this season I was hoping that Kobe would be taking no more than 18 shots per game in 35 or so minutes, but he's taking closer to 20 in only 33 minutes. PER 36 he's taking the 2nd highest attempts of his career. On top of that he's been acting like a really immature prick this year, constantly complaining and making an ass out of himself. It's embarrassing, really. His whole act has gotten old and it's made watching Lakers games almost unbearable. The one thing we need most right now is leadership, and both Kobe and Fisher are nowhere to be found.

The Yahoo article does a great job of pointing out the real problem, which is that Kobe is shooting entirely too much. I've been bitching about this all season. Like everyone else, I don't particularly care if Kobe misses shots. I can live with that. What I can't live with is him forcing the issue and ignoring everyone else on the court (27 shots? Ugh.). It's been a problem all year long and at some point someone within the organization has to step up to the plate and have a conversation with Kobe. It doesn't have to go public, but someone does need to go Bill Cartwright on Kobe's ass.

Ok so should I put in a good 50 bucks on a 60 point outing for the next game?

My favorite part of the article:

each year in Lakerland there’s four seasons: Kobe’s Mad at His Teammates; Kobe’s Shooting Too Much; Kobe Leads the Victory Parade; Kobe Receives his Championship Ring.

He's taking enough shots with the same effort to get 60 the only thing that needs to happen is them going in.

Or you can put 50 bucks on him refusing to shoot the whole game just to prove a point.

This season every time he has the ball in the post it just isn't the same as previous years. It looks like it might be because of his lift but Kobe when Kobe turns toward the basket and shoot he just doesn't shoot over the defense like he used to. Its resulted in more blocks than in the past. Very often he gets trapped in between multiple defender. He really needs to watch tapes of games this season and realize its not working like it used to.

I could put 50 bucks on you getting booted off this forum but unfortunately they don't take bets for that.

Kobe can take all the shots he wants. He can take 40 shots if he wants every game. Taking too many shots isn't really the problem. The real problem is his shot selection. It's his only weakness. It's been his problem since he entered the NBA.

i am actually glad he took the hit for the loss(Lord knows he took enough shots)especially after calling out his team the game before. he is right it is his job to put the ball in the hole. we would all like for kobe to be able to play a magic johnson type of game, but that is not his style. he needs to score, and like semi said i have no problem with him missing, everyone does, but don't take dumb shots. he's to smart and to good for that.
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

early on.. when kobe missed around 10 straight and the game was still close, i was sure that kobe would win it for us. i dunno, kobe took a lot of bad shots, he got fouled many times, but man dejuan blair was owning the glass, parker got a layup everytime he wanted, gary neal..GARY NEAL? drillin 3's.. thats all he can do! go put ur body on him. i think the defense is a real problem.

kobe struggled with his shot, but so did duncan and ginobili. towards the end of the 3rd, the game was real close, and after the start of the 4th, with kobe on the bench, spurs got a big lead. bynum couldnt make anything, odom missed, and we were down by so much.. kobe had to throw up 3's. if the game was still close while kobe was resting, we could have easily won the game despite his poor shooting. i think we're looking too much at the amount of shots he took.. no one really has the initiative to shoot except for kobe. he opens it up for everyone. kobe turned into rescue mode, didnt work but its not entirely kobes fault!

Kobe is going to be Kobe no matter what. He's been in the league for 15 years and he's 32 years old. He's not going to stop shooting the ball. That's what he do. You gotta live with it.

But the one thing that I cannot stand at this time is his lack of D. He's been playing some really bad defense recently. He's roaming to much and he's giving up a lot of easy buckets. For a guy that's about to make 25 mil next year. That is unacceptable.

Who knew George Hill could get into Kobe's head.

It pi**es me off when arrogant fans/RealGM posters talk about Kobe's 6-24 game, then he has a game like this.

But they dont talk about his 15 rebounds on a leg that he then had surgery on. Champions find a way
