Now that the honey moon period is over with him, its time to judge him objectively.

He can shoot like he showed earlier in the season but other than his shooting he's just a terrible basketball player. He stalls the ball a little too much on offense, can't dribble with his head up, which is juvenile and creates many turnovers and errant passes, has a low basketball IQ and when his confidence is down he cannot even get to the rack on fast breaks.

His fundamentals on defense are so poor that he either sticks to his man like glue or leaves him open to double up on a totally unnecessary situation.

I think this is a perfect case of sell while the value is high. If there's ever been a bad fit for the triangle offense its him. His poor play just reflects on the entire 2nd unit by running down unnecessary seconds on the clock and not getting the ball into the post.

I never understood the 'run by with your head down, screaming' logic. A simple close out would do so much more.

The one thing that bother me about Shannon is how unwilling to pass he is. Rather than feed the big that has fought for position he takes it upon himself to try and score by driving inside. This team has all the damn tools to be a phenomenal team but we just have too many guys not playing team ball. Once this team can get past all of the I need to get mine we will be fine. Not everyone on the team is like that but Shannon is one of those guys.

Problem is now that we've moved Sasha, he's pretty much our only backup 2. So the only type of player we could hope to move him for is another backup 2. And because of the nature of the contracts on this team, we probably wouldn't be able to package him with anyone we'd actually want to move.

So what backup shooting guards earning a similar salary could we trade him straight up for? Answer is probably "not many," which means we're probably stuck with him until at least the end of the season.

Sucks that Sasha is killing it right now. Timing is a b****.

So who or what would be the alternative? You think we should have kept Sasha (22pnts 5 Reb @GRIZZ) or maybe Farmar? Play him less play Matt B. more?

I think he needs more time with his newly acquired amount of minutes and freedom.

Or are saying the Lakers don't have time to develop him any further and you hope they move Brown along before the trade deadline?

Barnes playing more 2-guard is definitely something I wouldn't be opposed to.

Well said... its amazing how low his ball IQ is. He would be much more effective if he had a good dribble-drive to the hoop and passing ability.

pretty much summed up my exact feelings in the OP.

my biggest problem is his terrible defense. i've been watching him off the ball on defense and guy is straight up lost.

I think it's time to realize the Shannon experiment has failed horribly. I love Shannon, I really do, but he's (Please Use More Appropriate Word) on the court. He's like a poor man's Nick Young.

I was about to break my TV last night when he brought the ball up the court and tried to make a simple perimeter pass to the adjacent wing and didn't even bother to tilt his head to the side to see if that wing player was being guarded tightly. Trust me, it was far worse on TV than it sounds now...needless to say, it pissed me off more than any of the stupid **** Lamar's done over the years.

I think we need to shore up the 2/3 spots with a 3 man rotation like we do to our PF/C rotation with Artest/Kobe and Barnes taking up major minutes with Luke and Shannon as outside back ups.

We invested good money in Artest to be our starter and there's no point using him for 20 mins and playing Barnes for measly minutes at the 3.

Barnes/Kobe
Artest/Barnes is a much better rotation with Luke/Shannon covering up for injuries or foul trouble.

Those 3 guys deserve to share those 96 total minutes.

This team takes waaay too many outside shots.
Shannon being one of them who shots primarily from the outside.

Even when this team was shooting lights out from downtown it still isn't a consistent offensive attack.
Pounding the ball inside is our bread and butter.

As for Shannon I was never a big fan of him playing the shooting guard. When he first came here from the Bobcats he was our back up point guard. We stuck him on the big point guards like Chauncey or Deron Williams. We were pretty successful. Seeing small backcourts that consist of Shannon and Jordan or Shannon and Steve is a bit frustrating to watch. Mostly in the defense department.

as much as i dont like shannon's play, artest isn't exactly earning his minutes either. i'd go with luke cause im a luke homer

i want to agree with you about the undersized backcourt, but its not like shannon's size is getting exposed. he just plays stupid defense.

On the defensive end I would trust Matt, Ron and Luke a whole lot more than Shannon.

I think the Lakers entire defensive scheme has been terribly off as of lately.
We won these two championships playing tough man to man with a zone collapse in the paint.
Shannon's best defensive plays was as a rover off the ball.

There is a reason that no other teams wanted him.

His outside shot has been damn impressive, but in every other aspect of the game he's horrible just like he was last year. This is one of the reasons I was so desperate to get a guy like Raja Bell who is a very smart role player/veteran presence. He's exactly the type of backup we could have used. No use crying about it now because he chased the money, but our bench would be much different with him instead of Brown.

If we signed Raja, we would not be able to sign Shannon or Barnes correct? If not, my mistake, but if so Barnes + Brown > Bell.

We didn't use our full MLE on Blake, so we could have used the remainder on Barnes or Bell, and signed one or the other with the LLE, I believe.

nah, no LLE, lakers used it last yr on brown so didn't have it this yr.

so yeah, i'd rather have barnes than bell.
