LA school district says 2 wounded in shooting
(AP) – 47 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles Unified School District spokesman says two students were wounded in an accidental shooting at a high school.

The account differs from information from local police who say three people were wounded Tuesday morning at Gardena High and the shooter is at large.

Indeed. It sounds like he came to school with it to show-off and then it accidentally went off. Panicked, and then took hostages.

The girl is in critical condition, and the 2nd victim (male) in stable condition.

Gardena P.B Crip Territory. :o

Kid brought a loaded gun in his back pack.
Slammed his back pack on the table as it went off and shot a boy and girl.
Girl has head trauma and the boy with neck trauma . SMFH

The City of Gardena suffered a barrage of gang violence during the 90's .
It borders the cities of Compton, Crenshaw, Carson, Torrance, and Hawthorne for those who don't know.

Were trying to repair from the aftermath of the 90's and when terrible things like this happen,
it just slows down the process dramatically . :(

I thought Torrance was a nice neighborhood. I have a few friends that live there and work for GE.

Encountered many HS students like this. Stupid people + Deadly weapons = not a good combination. I rather sit beside an assassin or an contract killer at least they would know how to properly carry a gun and not accidentally shoot me.

heard the news earlier. i went to gardena for a year the 10th grade. there was a gang problem but nothing i would consider out of hand. i heard the kid was bringing the gun to school for protection. wow what has it come to when you need a gun to go to school? i pray for both victims and the suspect. from all accounts he was a good kid,and sometimes good people do stupid things, and bringing the gun to school was definately a stupid thing.

We heard about this all the way over here in Michigan. Unbelievable that this kind of thing still happens. Apparently, from what I heard, the school is above-average with student safety/protection. They wand every fourth student, or something like that.

Slava, I grewup in Torrance nearby Gardena, Gardena High is only 3 miles away from the house i lived in all my life until College. This incident really hit close to my heart, but know that there is a big difference between Torrance and Gardena. Torrance is relatively a nice neighborhood, but Gardena is pretty ghetto. North Torrance is somewhat borderline ghetto because they are right next to Gardena, but South Torrance and West Torrance is the really nice part.

Yo! thats my old hood when I was a Youth. Torrance is a nice locale really typical LA Suburb similar to Glendale, CA. Gardena is half and half. Some of it is nice the other side is a bit sketch. But not rough at all.Its bit like North Hollywood or North Long Beach area.

Odd how when I was in school (1990's) I distinctly remember having 4 shootings in my school with 4 fatalities. All attributed to gang violence but only 1 was found out to be just that. The others were just student versus student clashes. There were NO memorials, NO visit by the Governor or mayor. NO counseling! Just another day at school in the hood I guess. There was NO media coverage and NO one was calling out handgun owners and laws!

Times... They Are A Changin'...

But anyway, its great that this incident is getting attention. Maybe something will be done about kids and guns. FINALLY.

I watched the whole thing live on ktla and abc yesterday. The event itself was very tragic and unfortunate. The student was only 17 years old and wearing all black and as soon as he came out the door, he just stopped and stared at police, and then he was on the ground and handcuffed.
Apparantly the teacher had calmed him down and when the teacher opened the door, I guess he didnt cooperate with the cops, so they flung him out the door and then started to let the students out 1 by 1.

A 15 year old girl is in critical condition with a bullet wound through her head and a 15 year old boy is in serious condition with a graze wound through and through his neck. Im sure all our prayers go out to the 2 kids and their families.

As far as the suspect goes, whether or not it was an accident, the question rises about why he brought the gun to school in the first place. He is a minor and it is illegal to have weapons on campus, so he's most likely going to be charged with assault/attempted assault with a deadly weapon. Unfortunately, his life took a wild turn within seconds, and as young as he is, whether for protection or not, the young man will deserve what he gets.

I hope the school system improves day by day, especially LAUSD.

Sounds like my school in 1990 (G.W. Prep) I think Gardena was suspending about the same amount of kids back then so yeah it is a problem, But nothing NEW at all my friends.

Honestly, as I have said before this isnt anything new. Since the Senator is Arizona was shot anyone shooting at another person in broad daylight is must see tv right now. Sadly, this has happend in some inner city schools multiple times. Yeah most of it is kid versus kid shooting or stabbing but I think its the same. Sure, there were no teachers involved or no teacher witnesses, but this stuff occurs almost daily all over in big city schools.

LAUSD is a mess... :-?

Not defensive, just saying as I lived in the South Bay my entire life and know Gardena area quite well. As for the explanation about Crenshaw District, yes I am Happy now. Also don't call me son OK, it is really a overused term by kids that try to sound older than they are and tougher over the interweb. Plus I am probably older than you.
