How do you guys feel about shaqs number retired as a laker.

We'd look petty and ungrateful if we didn't. The Lakers are bigger than that.

we'd probably at least postpone it until after kobe has his number in the ceiling first

thats one way of going about . but did him joining our divisonal rivals and now our all time rival change anything. I think he should get in but part of me still bitter for how he left la. Would be better for him to wait a while

i say yes, he deserves it.

I'll say yes but not for a very very long time, when he's no long relevant in the news , for Kobe as soon as he retires I would say do that yr.

yea agreed. kobe is being honored in china town for the all stars

I said yes until he became a Celtic. I mean, its not like he joined a celtic team that paid him more then anyone else, or one that was no real threat. He joined a Celtic team during a rivalry year. I mean, I know lakers and celtics are the greatest basketball rivalry of all time but there was many years where we did not even think about them.

Rick Fox was a celtic for 8 years, but he left a terrible celtic team and became a laker. Shaq was a great laker and then joined a great celtic team, while there is a great laker team.

mason and ireland were talking about this yesterday. mason half-jokingly suggested they wait til shaq is dead, lol.

i say wait til after kobe.

I just think it's too bad that it's even an issue. You do what he did, it shouldn't even be a question. The second you retire, they're scheduling the ceremony.

A lot of different people shoulder varying degrees of blame for why he had to go. That's been done to death. But since he left? That's on him, and 99.9% of it should never had happened.

If he'd been cool since leaving, I wouldn't have a major problem. Guy's got a right to live his life how he sees fit.

It's all the pettiness -- the pot shots, the snide comments, "Kobe how my ass taste," how every team he plays on is the best, etc., etc. -- that bothers me more than anything.

Again, it's just too bad. His legacy with the Lakers, and our relationship with him as fans, should be iron-clad. He should be able to get a standing O every time he sets foot in Staples.

But he couldn't keep his mouth shut. I would just love to ask him, was the temporary satisfaction of insulting someone worth the long-term damage?

if would of just played and not said anything i probally wouldnt even care thats hes in boston. "this is the greatest team i ever played for".To me that a slap in face for all the times i rooted for him 2000-2003. Beacuse it isnt the best team hes played for.And dissing dr buss was another red flag for me. Dr buss gave him a championship team to play with. And i have met a laker fan that wouldnt be miffed talking about dr.buss. I think he should wait a while and humble himself. Does he care about being one of the greatest laker of all time? If thats answer no then why should shaq have his number retired.

There should be a time when his jersey web raised and the right time will be long after Kobes and when he is Bill Russells age. The fact is he clowned on both Buss and Kobe for years and ultimately these two guys would have a say in that.

The perfect scenario is this year Lakers win again and if anything, shut his mouth once and for all. Like he has done many times before, he will spin his comments about the greatest team crap and try to save face. Then he will join Charles and Kenny, kiss Kobe's ass and the Laker org's ass and most fans will forgive him.

Buss and Kobe, not so sure.

Shaq's DOMINANT days were in LA.
He won us 3 championships.
He is, and will always be obnoxious - but the dude dominated during his stint in LA.
He deserves to have his number retired.

he also went to Boston who has the best chance at beating us in the finals after Kobe made the "One more than Shaq" comment. It's pretty damn clear that had to be a motivating factor
