Kobe's successor

What does this board feel about Deron Williams playing the kobe role in the 2012/2013 season. Kobe can get a new contract and play a second fiddle role, and we can try to sign deron williams in the offseason next year. He's most likely done in utah, and he has the tools to be a legit no. 1 option on a contender.

His contract isn't up until after the 2012-2013 season. LA will still be over the cap by then, with team options on Bynum and Odom. They'll need to pull of some kind of trade because signing him outright isn't likely.

In 2 years Kobe is still better than DWill imo.
love D-Will, but I'd rather have CP3 oder Dwight. And D-Will lost my sympathy with the sloan thing

We're all Homers, but don't kid yourself.

I question Deron's leadership too much for him to be Kobe's successor. I don't think he has the mental toughness to be our future. Deron is a known ass, and pouter and when things don't go well he points blame at other people, instead of taking responsibility and admitting that the team (including himself) had a poor showing. The only player that I think the front office has their sights set on as far as our franchise player after Kobe is Dwight.

Dwight right now even if i have to con jerry buss into trading bynum. We will see. Who knows maybe LO gets traded after the cba along with ron and we get a chance at melo. I wouldn't mind seeing if we could get OJ mayo on the team in a work in progress ordeal .Its tough to find replacement for kobe, or any great franchise player.(kobe love time) Kobe is like bird was to boston. You cant trade him and not have every laker fan hate you and replacing him is going be alot work.. That why i like mayo who has some skills and talent. And MAYBE one day be the shadow of kobe.. And he would learn to be pro under kobe in the meantime. I know for one thing for sure. Shannon brown is going be our future sg. I pray hes not lol.

With Kobe's blessing of course I believe the Lakers will get another franchise player within the next few years. Kobe is smart he knows he will have to bring in another star to help him gracefully retire.

you have to realize that nash and hill had amare for a long time, even joe johnson for a while...whom both play as 1st options on different teams now.
ray allen has a young rajon rondo as well.
all the guys who were ELITE back in the day are still very serviceable, because they have a legit young talent playing alongside.
we have 2 players right now who are considered "young"- bynum and brown...and i dont see neither of them being the clear cut no. 1 option for any team any time soon. We dont need a star or allstar or even superstar....we need a future hall of famer...that just how it is in LA

I think the next Lakers superstar will probably be D. Howard the way I see it happening Howard wakes up one morning in July 2012 looks around the east sees Lebron,Wade and Bosh in Miami, Paul, Melo, and Amare in NY and Rose, Boozer and one other guy (I think JR Smith) in Chicago . He looks at his older aging Orlando roster and says to himself "the best chance I have to getting back to the finals is going West" he looks and sees the Lakers who can put in a trade another good C but not a superstar in Bynum and he gets Orlando to suck it up and trade him to LA. A wildcard in the summer of 2012 is Deron I dont see him staying in Utah but I dont know where he goes I can see him going to the just moved Brooklyn Nets or maybe in my wildest dreams he some how comes to LA with Howard.

None of those players have anywhere near the minutes Kobe has played. Nash hasnt had any injuries to his legs, and Grant Hills injuries have had him play so few minutes that he's still somewhat effective at 38. It's not like Grant Hill is some NBA superstar.

Kobe is a gym rat but grant hill , ray allen haven't even played close the playoff minutes of kobe.
