Why did Kobe change his number to 24

I've never heard an answer to this question and was wondering if anyone here knows why ..

To boost Jersey sales. Right after the rape trial. He slipped to #2 in sales, and when he changed his number they skyrocketed.

I don't think he was guilty by the way, not trying to start anything. This is just what I've heard as to why.

Read an article about this on ESPN I believe, but can't seem to find it.

If I recall right, he used to wear 24 in Italy growing up and in High School, but 24 was taken when he got to the Lakers in '96. He also changed because he thought it was time for a change.

probably lots of reasons to why he changed jerseys... i was told it was because he wanted to go 1 better then jordan so hence the #24.. and the number change came at a time he started to become more of a leader for the team...

It was a lot of factors, one addidas was trying to make money off him by re releasing the "Crazy 8's". Two he just flat out wanted a fresh start.

On the surface, he wanted a fresh start. Deep down, though, I believe the move was a financial decision by Bryant and others.

He said its because the shotclock has 24 seconds, one half is 24 minutes, day 24 hours. He wants to ive his best every possesion, every half, every day, something like that is his official statement.
money is always a factor though
