GM, Owner Will Pick L.A.'s Next Coach :-?
the coaching search could go any number of directions. The next man for the job might not come from within the Lakers organization and he might not plan on continuing to use Jackson's signature triangle offense.

Jackson said he expected to be consulted by the Lakers' front office for his opinion on who the next coach should be when the opportunity presents itself, but said the decision will ultimately be general manager Mitch Kupchak's and owner Dr. Jerry Buss' to make.

"I'm sure we're going to talk about it at some level, but that's got to be a fit," Jackson said. "It has to be someone that Mitch is comfortable with; it has to be something that Dr. Buss sees as the program ahead."

Source? It's no surprise, it'll probably be Shaw.

Andrew Bynum is beasting, the Lakers are on a roll, everyone is happy so let's talk coaching next season!

Per wiretap

"I would imagine the coach would be amenable to using the information that Kobe [Bryant] and Fish [Derek Fisher] and other guys on this team, Pau [Gasol], have here but you never can tell," he added. "That's up to ownership. If ownership wants to do something entirely different, they may shred this team and start over. Who knows?"

I'm personally pro Brian Shaw.

I'm also for Shaw. If it doesn't work, we can still change the system and get another coach.

I got no problem with Shaw taking the reins.

I actually think Chuck Person has a chance to coach the Lakers next year.

I have my doubts with Shaw to be quite honest. He doesn't strike me as that guy who can steer the ship when things get hectic. Hmm...

I'm more comfortable with Persons.

While I question Shaw's ability as a coach a little bit, it's mostly his proximity to players that worries me, especially Kobe/DFish. A problem with being so buddy buddy with them is cases of mismanaged expectations.

Your players might expect you to be the "perfect coach", letting small **** slide.

Your coach might expect you to be the "perfect player", giving it your all.

When **** goes down, I see Shaw folding before Bryant/DFish. Pretty much anyone folding first beside PJackson really.

The problem I have with Chuck is that I doubt he'll want to run the triangle. Although a new offense wouldn't be terrible with an aging Kobe, but I'm worried it would just piss him off.

The poster above me had a good point about the buddy buddy aspect of Shaw, didn't think of that, but since he played with them for some ring runs and was liked enough to come back as a scout and then assistant, he's probably not ready to coach him yet. Maybe when Phil leaves take a trip to another team for a stint then come back when the next Lakers coach fails?

^^ :) kobe/fish are old for this ****. if one day they confront Shaw is because they think Shaw cannot be their coach.

Anyway, Kobe does whatever he wants haha, even with PJ on the bench. Shaw needs to learn to use the media just like Phil does. Nothing else.

Anyway, the only criticism I've seen Phil throwing to Kobe in the last few years is because he's not using the triangle/not going inside. That's the only thing Shaw will have to manage with Kobe...

Now Fisher? haha :) The bulldog knows his place....

No retreads. Just because they had a big name years ago. Does not mean they are the one to take over. TNT has to many of these old coaches. We do not need them. Shaw will be a great first choice. Coach K...??

Why would Coach K want to come? To coach a bunch of aging players with attitude issues + Bynum? I feel like Coach K would be be utilized by a team like Oklahoma.

The Lakers front office will probably give a call to Coach K and Sloan but I think in the end because this is a vet team and could be 3 time defending champs when this decision is made they will probably pick Shaw because he will keep the same system and looking at the Lakers payroll they dont get out of many of their current contracts until 2013 so their won't be much roster turnover for the next couple seasons. Unless after next season the Lakers buyout Odom and Bynum and the Fisher and Artest opt out of their contracts.

I agree. I would lean more over to chuck than shaw right now. Hes been with the lakers for xxxxxx amount of years and personal i think the locker room would respect him a bit more than shaw would.

I think Shaw would be the favorite right now and I'm sure Dr. Buss would look forward to paying his HC a lot less than he has had to fork out for Jackson. (Not that Buss is cheap by any means, but between Jackson's salary and the luxury tax hits, he's really been forking out unbelievable dough.)

I see Shaw staying with the triangle, but I could see Buss wanting to try and go more up tempo again and the Lakers bringing in a different point guard to run the show. The Lakers could run and when it isn't there, they can set up the triangle as their primary half court offense.

Also, whoever would take over, let's hope they run a lot more pick and rolls with Kobe and Gasol.
