I think it's obvious that he will opt out. Will he be resigned by the Lakers thou? I won't count on Barnes opting in as well.

Brown has almost negative basketball IQ. He has more talent but Barnes brings more to the table.

Pretty much agree with everybody else that I'd hope Barnes stays and Brown walks. If and when, hopefully, Brown walks the Lakers will probably be looking to draft some SG's with their plethora of second round picks.

I'd consider that a successful off season. Just move Barnes to back up Kobe and get Ebanks playing back up SF minutes. Draft a young PG or acquire someone with a small trade (using Caracter?) an LLE big man and we'd be very set.

Barnes stays, backups the 2, give more time to Ebanks to develop....ideally would like to see us bring Grant Hill in to backup the 3.....he's old but still got more game then half of the bench warmers in this league.

Barnes is the perfect role player for us. He tough, he hustles, and he's just much smarter than Brown. He always seems to know where to be, which is why he gets so many wide open corner shots. He doesn't hesitate on those shots either. Dude just knows exactly what he's supposed to be doing.

I'm almost sure Shannon can be flipped for a mid 1st in the upcoming draft. He needs to opt back in so we can do so.

If Shannon didn't try to play like a superstar he wouldnt be so awful. But he thinks he's the ****.
Oh and he indeed has negative BBIQ

If Barnes doesn't opt out the Lakers won't be looking for another SF in the summer. Shannon I think still could be resigned even if he opts out because I think at most he'll get a 1m pay raise because I can't see a team spending MLE money on him.

Not sweating if Brown walks out, that will open the door for Devin. He can easily develop into a "stretch" 2/3, also a longer defender who can be a lock down at that.

Great to hear Barnes will probably stay though... worth much more than we are paying...

Pretty much agree with the consensus here.

I think Shannon could still be used in a S&T. I wouldn't mind having him back, but I'm not gonna go crazy if he opts out. Didn't we go through this last year, and Brown still hasn't figured it out. He's not as valuable as he thinks he is.

It would be great to finally get a steal in the draft that we hold onto.

I'll admit that Brown has looked pretty bad recently, but he was tearing it up earlier in the year.
I wouldn't want to let him just walk away, and Mitch said as much in the wiretap article. Brown still brings a needed dimension to this team, and unless we can find a better backup 2, I don't see the logic in letting him walk.
We still have the whole playoffs, let's wait before we jump to any conclusions on Brown.
Barnes has been fantastic. I'd really like to trade Walton for a washing-machine and get Barnes the pay raise he deserves.

Brown is useful on this team.
I don't care if he jacks up shots with that second unit. Half of the time they are bail out shots because they don't have a go-to scorer in that lineup and they don't always initiate the offense. It's obvious that at times they actually treat Shannon as the scorer in that lineup.
Like it or not we're an aging team with a lack of speed and athleticism. And as So Gutta pointed out he was shooting really well earlier in the year. IIRC he's also made some key shots for us in playoffs past.
Shannon is not our problem. Yes he has big weaknesses, but his strengths happen to complement what we're already lacking. And until we replace his youth and athleticism, his potential to spark this team, then I'm for keeping him.
I hope Devin can find his way into the lineup next season...but you never know.
You really think if PJ thought Shannon was as bad as you guys constantly bitch about we'd have resigned him and then traded his only competition?
Just don't underestimate the usefulness of a sparkplug.
