LOS ANGELES -- If the Sacramento Kings are successfully able to move to Anaheim, the Los Angeles Lakers' lucrative 20-year television deal with Time Warner Cable won't be as lucrative as it once was, multiple Lakers sources confirmed to ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Last month the Lakers agreed to an unprecedented 20-year television agreement with Time Warner Cable to distribute Lakers games and original programming across two regional sports networks in HD that will include the nation's first Spanish-language regional sports network. Although finances of the deal were not released, some reports at the time pegged the value of the pact at $3 billion, a figure Time Warner Cable and the Lakers have since refuted.

If a third NBA team moves into the market, however, the Lakers' television deal will decrease by about just under 10 percent, sources said without giving a breakdown of the numbers affected.

The Lakers' agreement, which begins with the 2012-13 season and covers all preseason, regular-season and postseason games not nationally telecast, was viewed as a major blow for current rights holders Fox Sports West and KCAL-TV. The Kings, however, could lessen that blow and create competition for viewers and fans in Orange County if they filled the void left by the Lakers on both outlets....

Right... Which is why, within 5 seasons of the Kings moving to Ana, one of them will be gone... Mark my words. If I had to bet, within maybe 3 years at the outside, the Clippers will have moved.

The move is just ridiculous on so many levels to me. There are so many other markets they could go to.

It really must actually be some sort of ploy to cut into the Lakers revenue... I honestly can't see any other reason for it.

Stupidest thing they can do, don't they know that clippers fans are already lessened because of lakers?. They are gonna have no fans at there games cause their gonna get hand me done clippers fans... 80% are already lakers fans there.. I doubt they would switch... So clippers and royals would split the 20%left over... Dumb move... LA is big.. Not that big...

LOL, a 15 win team for the next 5 years isn't going to cut much into the Lakers revenue. Nobody watches the kings and it's not because they are in sacramento, it's because they stink. Lakers fans hate the queens and we'll continue hating them despite them moving here. There's an extremely small portion of people who aren't kings fans now, and will suddenly adopt a loyalty to them just because they are in anaheim, despite the lakers being (possibly) the 3 time defending champions. Who the heck is gonna decide to watch a kings game instead of a lakers game when they have been lakers fans plus the lakers are the winning team? I can't visualize anybody doing this. Clippers fan are as die hard as they come and stick to their team despite losing seasons. If these new anaheim queens play against boston or miami. I'll root for boston and miami to win over these fools.

If they are able to put together a young athletic, exciing, and successful team, some of the more fickle Lakers fans will make the jump, especially as we go through our next transitionary period.

But the battle will really be between the Kings and the Clippers. And with the poor management of the Clippers, it'll be increasingly more and more difficult for them to justify sharing Staples with the Lakers if they also have competition from another franchise right down the road with a new, unique building.

The Clippers should have moved to Ana... A 3rd franchise in such a small area is just dumb.

The other scenario I could see is that everyone might just get annoyed with the glitzy, Fame-Seeking Malloofs and the inevitable marketing blitz for the new team and just refuse to support the team.

Clippers fans have been through a lot and if they still support the team that means they're pretty loyal.

The move could back-fire. Please... Just go to Vegas... You know you want to.

RIght, but I see this number being a lot smaller than people are projecting. I think people are under estimating just how much of a double edged sword "bandwagon" fans are. As long as the Lakers are the better team, I don't think there is a big enough market for Anahein. They will have to win a championship to make any sizable dent to the Lakers. The Kings are not going to have anyone as young or exciting as Blake Griffin, so I don't see too many fans going for that kind of thing switching to the Kings but rather the Clippers. I just think the combined market of Clippers + Lakers doesn't leave much room for the this Kings/Royals team. The only market they really have are diehard Orange County/Anaheim fans who support their city no matter what sport or team it is, as long as its in the city that will be their team of choice. This demographic is extremely tiny - I think even 10% is a bit high of an estimate.

I don't have any real sources or research on that, but I'm born and raised in OC, and I know how OC people can be with the Lakers. A lot of these people aren't big enough basketball fans to pick a new or unknown team over the "cool to be fan of" Lakers, and die hards like myself will always support the Lakers.

I think the window in which the Kings/Royals will be better than the Lakers is extremely small considering the Lakers and Kings respective history..
