Four 2nd round draft picks

Post#1 » by laduane1 » Tue Mar 29, 2011 7:05 am

The Lakers having 4 picks in the secon round of the 2012 NBA draft. What do we do with so many. Trade some to get back into the first round. Keep all 4 and see who makes them. Rebuild the bench if Barnes or Brown leave.

Draft euros to stash overseas. We are not going to get any major impact player or move up significantly, so might as well try to fish a Ginobili out of one of those picks.

find at least 2 keepers, preferably BIGS, I'm pretty sure we're not going to see Theosaurus and Joe Beast here next year and then there's barnes/brown, Brown already sounds like he's bounching and Barnes says he wont excercise his opt. but you never know.

UCLA guy would be nice, but he is listed at 20 on NBADraft.net. So unless he is shorter than 6'8 or other Euro's come out. He might be in the first round out of the Lakers hands. Lakers have not had a 1st for 3 years and this will make 4 years. Why not find one, it is about time.

Trade them all for something of actual value - There are many teams that would love players on paltry rookie contracts.

yea teams like us  , kobe/pau/bynum contract is going to get that much more ugly next season, mgmt wants as much bench for their buck as possible, w/o Jackson around I would think rookies get more chances to play if they have actual talent.

Honeycutt is slated to be a mid/late first rounder so if he were on our radar we could take him. I haven't seen enough of him to make a judgement, so if any of you wouldn't mind describing his game it'd be very much appreciated. As for the draft, I think we should target PF/C Tyler Zeller, PF/C Keith Benson, PF Nikola Mirotic, SG/SF Travis Leslie, SG Marshon Brooks, SG David Lighty, PF CJ Leslie, PG/SG Josh Selby, SG Malcolm Lee, PF Nikola Vucevic, PG Darius Morris, PG Norris Cole, PG Tyshawn Taylor. Kind of a hefty list but there's some talent to be had in this years 2nd round. Some of these are mid/late first rounders like Selby, Mirotic, and Zeller but they have a very good chance of slipping into the 2nd. We would need to trade up to get one of these talents, of course.

I'd definitely draft Zellers if he falls to the second round. The guy has a pretty good offensive game

I woulds say trade the GSW and NYK picks with Blake and some cash and get Felton and the Nuggets 1st round pick in return and draft Nolan Smith.

I'm not saying thats the deal but we dont want to take on any more salary than we need. It's been proven that we need to tighten our bench but alot depends on what Brown and Barnes do this summer in regards to their contracts.

If they stick around we dont need a first round pick, we keep out 2nd's and draft best we can and work em out in the summer and if we find a diamond in the ruff we sign if not ....no financial obligations!

We should trade our picks from the Warriors and Knicks to move up to get someone who slips into the second round. Then draft a couple of European players and let them develop overseas for a couple of years. We need some younger players to add to our old roster. I think only Brown and Bynum are players in our rotation under 30 years old. We have done a good job in the past getting players in the second round like Walton,Turiaf,Gasol,Ebanks and Caracter and I think we will do the same this year.

Meh, in the trade thread I suggested Blake, Caracter, future 1st, and maybe the NYK and MIA 2nd rounders for Felton. Then trading Brown, 2nd rounder to the Bulls for either the 25th or 29th pick. You're right we really don't need any more salary so that's why we trade that low pick from CHI to a team that has multiple 2nd rounders and get back into the early 2nd round. Then that would leave us with three 2nd rounders, either use one to draft a PF/C and sell the other two, or draft two talents and sell the other one, or just sell all three. I am the king of pipedreams.
