Congrats to Ron Artest, who was chosen one of four finalists for the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, presented by the Pro Basketball Writers Association to the player, coach or trainer who shows “outstanding service and dedication to the community.”

Artest is up against Portland’s Marcus Camby, Orlando’s Dwight Howard and Chicago’s Kyle Korver in a voting done by writers.

“Oh wow. Oh wow,” Artest said when informed about his nomination before Thursday’s game. “I think everyone who does something gets mentioned. I’m not sure what everyone is doing, but congratulations to everybody. It’s cool.”

Artest was chosen a finalist for his work on mental-health initiatives this season, including raffling off his 2010 NBA championship ring and joining the Mental Health in Schools Act Task Force.

go ron!

Congrats to Artest, I bet after the Malice in the Palace no one would've ever seen him receiving or being nominated for such an award.

Seriously.

Some people thought after the brawl, Ron's career was done like Latrell Sprewell.

My first reaction was WTF, but hey, he's really made an effort to become a better person and help others as evidenced by him raffling off his ring (which was absolutely nuts, I would have never done that). Kudos to Artest, and well deserved.
