I think he's saying is that this is truly his final playoff run and he's going to give every ounce of energy he has left for coaching, gonna leave it all out there.

If it truly is his last run, i dont think lackadaisical play will be a reason we lose. it'll just be that the other team we face is better in that series. as long as bynum, barnes and somewhat blake are healthy, we have no excuses. i think we gonna 3 peat. that is big time motivation.. ur legendary coach's final playoffs.. if kobe, fish, lamar, and the rest of the dudes do not give 110%.. itll be sad.

For some reason at first I read the thread title as saying the opposite... but I'm glad Phil spoke up about this. I can't wait. Go out on top Phil.

I really hope we 3peat just for Phil. But to mee, we arent clearly the best team anymore. Gonna be really hard this time

If Kobe stops playing like he's playing and becomes playoff Kobe (which he will)... and Bynum can get back healthy... everyone else is in trouble.

This one's for Phil. And I don't care if the Lakers win again in the next decade if it meant sending Phil off with one last big title celebration.

Wouldn't Phil declaring that this will be his last year coaching put more pressure on the Lakers to win the championship this year? Perhaps waiting till after the playoff run this year to announce his retirement would put the Lakers more at ease mentally with this playoff run, since there's only a few guys in that locker room who can handle all that pressure (i.e. Kobe, Fish). On another note, I do wonder where Phil is takin' his talents to this summer .

I think Phil understands the psycology of the team just a SMIDGE more than any of us.

This championship is all on kobe sure i hope phil gets sent out the right way but all kobe ever wanted was to be in the same breath as Micheal Jordan (GOAT) and now he has an opportunity to atleast match him in rings. If he could accomplish this feat that will cement his legacy in the top 10 greatest players of all time arguably top 5 if your a kobe homer (like me).

Now having said that kobe better not take it upon himself to takeover games when/if we find ourselves down by 10 or so in the ball game. Deep down inside i believe kobe will do the right thing, stay within the system and ultimately come out on top..

It's not his fault that our bigs played like a bunch of D-Leaguer's. They need to bring a bit more effort next time and show some passion instead of half-assing it down the floor while Okafur and Laudry get uncontested dunks.

in the long run, hopefully this playoff run goes much longer than this round . . . but in the long run, its THE BENCH needs to give everything they have. thats my concern. they are not as consistent and having an impact.

...because in normal, non-retirement playoff runs he only gives a good effort, just not quite his best...

Phil coaches in the playoffs? Pretty sure he just blames the refs and manipulates them with Jordan's rings. The guy hasn't coached since MJ returned from baseball. . .

and you probably also haven;t watched basketball since then either. Stop walking on thin ice.
