great coaching candidate for next year

Yep and I actually hope either him or JVG gets the gig. But something is telling me Shaw will be the one selected, so I must go with that.

Interesting, Deep. Why not? All I want from our next coach is one who can get us to play hard. I hope Shaw's not as passive as he looks. I think to milk what's left of our talent we need a change in coaching style.

Since we're talking about recently removed coaches..just for fun: What if Jerry Sloan coached the Lakers next year?

if jerry sloan couldn't handle deron williams wanting to do his own thing, he'd probably quit after game one when kobe breaks his offense 75% of the time.

as for adelman, that would be someone i'd be happy with.

Adelman would work wonders with Gasol, just look what he did to Vlade's and Webber's career. Great coach.

Not that it matters, Shaw > JVG > Adelman in my opinion. I doubt Sloan is an option.

I don't like JVG. Adelman would bring another dimension to the Lakers team.

Look fellas here's my spin on Adelman, dude has had chance after chance after chance here in coaching. He's a good coach for a young up and coming team, but for a veteran team that's won already....no.

Has nothing to do with X's and O's, to me his teams have always started out blazing under him. But after 3-4 years they stall in their development. One of the reasons the Kings couldn't beat the Lakers was two prong, his in game adjustments and obviously his players. To me he seemed to tense up in clutch moments, and looked dumbfounded to the situation around him. In Game 7 he ran the exact same sets like 4 or 5 time down the floor when the Kings were choking 3 point air balls.

I remember specifically a moment in the 2001 Laker/ Blazer series in a real tight moment when that Laker team had no idea about winning. Anyway the Lakers were trying to force feed Shaq and the Blazers had made a nice adjustment to it, so Phil calls timeout and calmly say to the players..." You , you,you and you forget about Shaq". Think about it he told them to go away from our bread and butter in a tense moment in the game. Suddenly the Blazers had to figure out what the hell we were doing, but it work for us and we pulled away.

See that's a simple in game adjustment that couldn't be countered. Rick just doesn't seem to have that to me. Further more he's a retread, the Lakers haven't really hired many retreads in my time of watching them. Rudy T and Phil don't count because up until then they had only coached one team. Rick has coached 4 already. His time is up, much rather go with some new blood.

Rick seems good, but there's a certain factor that separates great coaches from good coaches. Granted, great players factor into it, but Adelman doesn't seem to have "it" that distinguishes him.

Shaw hasn't proven it either, but I think a certain level of respect is given to Shaw, so the team can stay cohesive.

Out of Shaw and JVG he is the best option.

JVG is a grind it out defensive coach and I would love to have him because that's the kind of basketball I like to watch. But him and Kobe would clash.

I think Kobe and Rick's personality would compliment each other.

Absolutely would like him here. People forget that Shaw has zero experience as a head coach. The players like Shaw, because, in my opinion, he is a players coach. Adelman is clearly the best option, although I would take it that with he or Sloan, we would have to leave behind the triangle offense, which may be Ok, considering our stacked team.

The only problem I have with Shaw being our next coach is that I'd be afraid we'd be in effect, hiring Kobe...

I don't want Kobe to have too much of a say over what goes on on the court and I think Shaw and Kobe are a little too close for comfort as far as team leadership goes.

Kobe is sliding perhaps not so gracefully into the twilight of his career. I'm not terribly comfortable with him calling the shots as he does. Or him having too much of a say in our ushering in a new era for this team.

We need an infusion of youth on this team and a coach who will be strong enough to strike a balance between Kobe and the old guard and the new guys.

Adelman or Slone. I think Adelman would be good for our team. Well I just have mad respect for Jerry Slone

Adelman would at least change the triangle and place a real PG at the forefront of the system. I would love to see how the offense would perform with Chris Paul at PG, Adelman as the HC, and Odom as the PF (you need to replace Gasol by adding two solid big men off the bench though).
