74% of NBA players answer Kobe to "Who do u want shooting with game on line?" Durant 8%, Wade 3%, Allen/Nowitzki 2%. (SI poll, 166 players.)

damn kobe homers. can't find a link to the SI story itself, so no idea when it was conducted.

Wasn't this a long time ago or does the percentage seem similar to me since it was done in the offseason?

Last shot? Yes - unless he has 2-3 opponents draped all over him, of course.
All the shots? Please, don't

I am surprised none of them said Carmelo Anthony.

Although I do believe in much of the things that Henry Abbot says, I have to say that stats can be made to make anyone look good or terrible. Like Kobe's 6 game winners last year, I really don't know what Kobe's shooting percentages were up till the last shot, but Henry Abbot is the kind of guy who would say, "Kobe was shooting 0-3 up until that game winner. Had he even hit one shot, the game winning shot wouldn't have been necessary. That's not as clutch as you think." But of course, there are different definitions of clutch, so it's up to you if that kind of performance is clutch or not.

I feel like Kobe isn't that clutch this year. He has been trying to play hero and playing 1 on 1 a lot late in games forcing up ridiculous shots. Like the Sacramento game, as much as I want to give huge props to Kobe for hitting that game tying 3 pointer to tie up the game, he wasn't having a "Best Closer of the Game" moments up until the last shot he took.

Why would you be? What has Carmelo ever done in the playoffs?

What stands out to players/coaches/fans are the memorable moments in the playoffs under extreme pressure, not what's done in the regular season against garbage teams (82games.com stats, for example). Kobe didn't build his clutch reputation by hitting 6 game-winners when it didn't particular matter. He proved his worth against the best of the best when it was win or go home time. People want the ball in the hands of players that have experience, confidence, and a knack for hitting well-defended, tough shots. Kobe's done that time and time again. He's had his share of failures as well, but every single player with a clutch reputation has failed more than they've succeeded (I'm talking shots, not win/loss). Jordan, Bird, Magic, Miller, you name it. They've all faltered plenty during big moments, but RealGM wasn't around to highlight their failures back then so they didn't face the same type of scrutiny.

Edit: typos

I for one wouldn't want Carmelo to take the last shot for my team (wouldn't be in top 5), but I only said that because Henry Abbot as I was talking about is always saying that Carmelo is more clutch than Kobe (I would assume players would at least recognize how clutch he is), yet he doesn't have a reputation like Kobe does. Also, apparently Mike D'Antoni doesn't believe in Melo as well. He didn't even design a play for him...lol. I am sure there are people out there that would vote Melo though, that's why I was surprised.

I'm impressed that NBA players didn't select LeBron. Respect!

Durant was 2nd place in this poll...

Definitely surprising not to see Melo. Kobe is anti-clutch this year but glad to see that his opposition is still deathly afraid of him

Henry Abbot has no idea what he's talking about. He's just another clueless hater with an agenda. He misrepresented plenty of stats in his "clutch" article, but he was merely catering to the haters who will re-post his garbage on message boards (like the clowns on the GB/PC boards).

Here's a complete rebuttal of Abbott's article, in case you hadn't seen it: http://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2011 ... nry-abbott

Good stuff... :)

True, but he got such a small percentage of the votes that it doesn't even matter. There's always going to be some margin of error/homerism in these polls.
