Do you think he has done enough for the Los Angeles Lakers to join the elite club?

If they win this year, I think he'd be in strong consideration.

It depends if he makes the Hall Of Fame that seems to be the requirement for the Lakers to retire anyones jersey. Pau probably has case as an international candidate he probably is one the top 5 players to ever to come from Europe I would only put Dirk, Petrovic and maybe Manu ahead of him.

yes. he turned us from first round fodder/middling treadmill team into the most talented, most versatile team in the NBA overnight.

if not for pau, there is no three straight trips to the NBA finals, no back-to-back titles.

While I agree (to an extent), statements like these bother me for some reason. It seemingly mitigates the the effect Kobe, Bynum, LO, artest, ariza, etc.. have had. Certainly pau was the piece that tied everything together, but he was by no means the end all be all.

I'm thankful for gasol, but his arrival also came with the complete revamping of our team. A lot of addition by subtraction as well.

It's a basketball Hall of Fame, not an NBA Hall of Fame. I know that his accomplishments will get him into the hall.

2 Gold Medals with the national team (MVP in 2006)
3 Silver Medals with the national team
1 Bronze Medal with the national team
European Player of the year 7 times.
2 NBA Championships

I think Pau's jersey will be retired, solely on the fact that he has brought us 2 championships in the 2 (full) seasons he has been with the Lakers. One more and it's guaranteed.

Gail Goodrich got his jersey retired as the 2nd/3rd option on one title team. Worth got his retired as the 3rd option on several title teams.

Gasol coming in as the 2nd option completely turned this team for a perennial first round exit, to a championship contender. 3 straight finals appearances and 2 straight championships and looking to add to both of those this year. He's been the best 2nd option in the league for a while now... All-Star every year he's been a Laker so far. could very well be the best PF in our franchise history.

No question his jersey gets retired here.

It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

A resounding yes. A better question is does Fish and Lamar get their jersey's retired? What about Andrew, does he need to play a few more years at his current level, does Artest have a chance?

As previously discussed in other threads, the Lakers don't retire role player's jerseys. As much as Fisher has done for the franchise, he isn't seen as a Laker great/HOFer. That's why you don't see the likes of Cooper, Scott, and Nixon having their jerseys retired in Lakerland.

Artest, no chance.

Odom, no chance, as well.

Bynum has a slight chance, given his age, but highly unlikely, with his injury problems.

The Lakers aren't the Boston Celtics who retires numbers easily.

Pau would've make the HOF with his international accolades alone.

Very few non-americans accomplished as much as he did for his national team.
