adleman does he good job with lesser talented teams and has reg season/playoff exp. and may get more respect from the players.......shaw would likely keep the same system and knows the players better.....but will they listen to/respect him? would he be a good head coach?.........who gets your vote for la's next hc?

i would go with adelman 99 times out of 100, with that 1 time being a team with a personality like kobe. takes a special coach to handle kobe, and i think shaw is the most qualified for that.

That's a great point. For me, Adelman is a guy that may have a title if it weren't for a crap foul call. He'd come in with a certain degree of respect (as would Shaw). Never got a fair shot in Houston because of roster turmoil and Yao's injury.

+1
So basically you know Shaw gets the gig simply because of his repore with Kobe. This is what the Adelman supporters don't understand.........Kobe doesn't know this cat, Kobe has no idea what this man is like in critical situations, Adelman would be a horrible coach for this particular team.

And guys keep harping on the "no experience" card with Shaw.....last time I checked every NBA coach NEVER had experience when they first started out. Hell Mike Dunleavy didn't have one ounce of experience when Jerry West hired him in 1991, Jerry Sloan didn't have one ounce of experience when Frank Layden stepped down with the Jazz in '89.

Coaches with no experience usually get in trouble when they take jobs with teams with no proven vets that have won. You guys ever wonder how Pat Riley got to be the "man".....he was able to start off with a prime Magic and a still credible Kareem. Hell Pat didn't even put in half the time as an assistant as Shaw has already.

Come off that no experience card, it ain't flying and carries no weight.

The only guy I think Kobe would want to coach the Lakers, other than Shaw, is Nate McMillan. I know he respects him a great deal. Also, Byron Scott.

yeah, too bad byron scott isn't available.....oh well....i guess we'll see how shaw does next season......not that i particularly care....but i not LA....then where does aldeman end up? if not LA where does shaw end up? does he get the chance/ or even wanna stay on as an asst.?

i just don't see the intrigue in byron scott. i'd rather go with kurt rambis than byron scott.

The advantage with Adelman is that he runs a pretty similar set with his Princeton offense so it wouldn't be much of a change in terms of identity. However the one time I saw Kobe not in the triangle offense he struggled to recognize double teams and seemed like a fish out of water.

If Phil is going to stay in LA for the winters like he claims, I'd rather give Shaw the job and hire Phil as a consultant to give us a good adjustment period.

'Kobe will listen to Shaw' is a ridiculous reason to rate him higher. You know you're getting a good coach in Adelman, Shaw is a crapshoot that may pay off, but also may not. When you start turning over a 2, maybe 3 time championship roster to an unproven asst, that's a huuuuuuuuge gamble.

You get Shaw if you're OKC - talented young team on the way up. You get Adelman if you're LA - veteran team that is, like it or not, at their peak or on the way down.
