The Key to this series like always is defense. We pretty much have all the match ups hands down besides Pau & Dirk. That match up could go either way every night. One of the Keys is Artest. The matrix is still awesome at hustle points & timely rebounds & put backs. Ron Ron will have to keep an eye on this all series long. The last time we were up here (March 12th) The Matrix had 25 & 12. Drew had 22 & 15 and they had absolutely no answer for him so he will be key. I see Pau waking up this series & getting it going with Bynum & we will begin to wear them down & that will open things all the way up for the Mamba to do his thing. They can talk about Kobe all they want. He is still a deadly assassin & oh yeah, still the best closer in the game! The bench is really key as well. We have to outplay their bench & dont let that little bug faced Jason Terry get off at all!

lets try not to lose game 1

Start the series on the right foot. Artest needs to do a better job defending Marion, last time we played Dallas he went God mode on us. Bryant overwhelmingly wins the matchup against Stevenson, and Fisher is going to have to do a good job staying on Kidd and contesting his 3's. This is no time for the soft plague to creep back up on Gasol, he's got to do his absolute best checking Nowitzki or else it's going to be a long series for this Laker squad. I'm not worried about Chandler as long as he's bodied up with Bynum, Bynum will get whatever he wants and more against him. Odom just needs to be the Kardashian-Odom that he's been throughout the season and we'll win this in 6.

Phil needs to attack Dirk on the defensive end. Put Gasol in the post and let him go to work. Bynum can run in for the easy put back or offensive rebound. Lakers gotta make Dirk play some defense.

my only worry is if the mavs inexplicably shoot lights out, like kidd did in round one. i don't think the mavs beat POR if kidd doesn't have once in a lifetime shooting series.

keys--

1. play through the triangle. Because they have dirk and chandler doesnt mean they're great on the defensive end. Pau needs to take advantage of Dirk in the post, because he can.

2. Rebound. Dirk, terry, stevenson and kidd take plenty of long jumpers, which means long rebounds....bynum, pau and odom- 2 of those 3 need to be in double digit rebounding on a consistent basis.

3. JJ Barea and Shawn marion- they usually tend to have good games against us, especially barea. young guards have been bothering us all year, and these mavs are probably the EASIEST to defend with kidd at his age. derek fisher should be fine, i anything, i'd like to see shannon brown and steve blake take advantage of this opportunity. they're probably the fastest players out of both teams.

4. BENCH!---simply outscore their bench. thats it. just outscore their bench.

5. X factor....MAVS- JJ Barea / LAKERS- Ron artest...both players can hurt the other team in various ways. artest shows up for the playoffs more so than the regular season. if he keeps his head on his shoulders as he did in vs the hornets, we shouldnt have a problem.

I actually think I might be away from the norm here...but I think Kobe's volume scoring is the key for this series. Obviously Gasol's matchup with Dirk is huge, but If Kobe can be in Mamba mode we'll win this series. Marion can't guard Kobe, and Stevenson sure as hell can't. Our advantage on the inside is relatively low compared to the Hornets.

Everyone's opinion is on point, pretty much listed everything i had in mind .

I wanna see Bynum and Pau set more baseline screens for each other to get Dirk to switch on defending Bynum in order to get dirk to exert more effort on defense (and hopefully get him in early foul trouble). i can live with Marion hitting floaters, i just want our guards to run Kidd and Peja off the 3pt line. stopping Jason Terry like we did the last time we played them will be key too. i dont want to see him spread his arms out like a little kid pretending he's an airplane

Since you guys have watched him more, maybe one of you can explain this to me. How has Bynum had his best performance against us? You're telling me he has an easier time scoring against us than against the Suns, Raptors, and Timberwolves? That doesn't make sense, Chandler finished 3rd in DPOY, and Haywood is a good defensive center (especially 1 on 1). What did we do so badly that let him get going like that?

We can't match you guys in post scoring, but we can compete on the boards, and theoretically match up enough that we shouldn't be getting killed like we have been. If our outside shooters can get going, I think it should be a competitive series.
