J.A. Adande talks Howard to the Lakers

Post#1 » by Jetset » Mon May 9, 2011 1:33 pm

If the Magic would rather hold on to Howard and take their chances when he becomes a free agent, the Lakers could shed salary by not picking up the contracts of Bynum or Lamar Odom ($8.2 million) after the 2011-12 season. But they would still need to move other contracts to get far enough below the cap to sign a major free agent.

I hear all kinds of mixed messages on Howard. One person told me Howard wants to be a Laker. Someone else said he wants Chris Paul to join him in Orlando. Another said his top priority is to sign a maximum contract, which would make a trade (either in-season or a summer 2012 sign-and-trade) the only way for him to land in Los Angeles.

Sucks we have to deal with this for the next 6+ months (assuming there's a lockout).

We aren't giving up Dwight...StayDwight.com

Post#8 » by Magicfan94 » Mon May 9, 2011 11:13 pm

Orlando Magic fans are encouraging businesses to get involved in helping keep Dwight in Orlando for the rest of his career. A campaign called www.StayDwight.com was launched for Magic fans to support for Dwight, the D12 Foundation and what he means to the City of Orlando. Even their Mayor, Buddy Dyer gave thanks in a video to Dwight: www.youtube.com/staydwight

I find this kind of stuff pathetic really. People allowing themselves to be that much emotionally invested in a player that they would fund a website that the player will probably never read, and try and rally support from other desperate fans of that player. What is this world coming to?

I'm sure he'll read it, at least look at it once. It's also more for the local businesses. I think it's a good sign for the sport in all honesty.

Meh it almost seems like an unhealthy obsession honestly. Just another case of the fan wanting to feel close to the situation and show that they have some sort of bond with a player a lot fans have never even met personally. He might read it and may feel sympathetic towards Orlando fans, but if he already has plans on leaving this little website isn't going to stop him. And then the maker of the site is not only mad at the fact that Howard left them, but that he/she wasted dollars on a helpless cause.

Don't get me wrong it's amazing to see how much sports impacts a person's life, but this is going over the top.

I actually see nothing wrong with them creating a website to try and keep Howard.

As far as if he will actually stay: Even if he doesn't end up going to the Lakers, I think he's out of Orlando for sure. Every player wants to win, and I'm not sure Orlando has what it takes to surround him with the type of talent it takes to do that. Turkoglu and Arenas make 30 million combined, and as far as what they bring to the Magic, I think they really cripple their ability to build them as a serious contender.

Magic Johnson is right. It is time to blow this ship up and get a new one.

Dwight is the first piece cause Bynum, and an older Gasol won't cut it.

If D12 wants out to LAL and Orlando might lose him for nothing then trade Gasol, Bynum
or whoever to get him. D12 will be great but we will need another great pg.

why would we give up a top 5 player for gasoft or bynum? not happening, and if he let him be a free agent, lakers wont have capspace to sign him, in short, not gonna happen
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

we shouldnt trade gasol...and we'll realize how vital he was to this team if hes gone....keep this team intact and get a point guard who can put the ball in the basket. thats all we need.

Check this, with or without Dwight we're a great franchise and will continue to be such. You know why? Because of our commitment to excellence and also because we don't run our stars out of town with franchise killing trades. We may and we may not end up with him, but it still doesn't take away from the fact that you all ran him out of town. You should feel shame as a Magic fan.

I'm guessing you just came up with a random list of PGs but you realize that 2/5 of that list isn't possible without either trading Gasol or Bynum. The 3/5 is so unrealistic it's not even worth getting into.

I'm glad to see some real Laker fans here realize that they will never get Dwight. He won't get traded for some 30+ old guys and an immature walking injury. IF, that's a big IF, the Magic trade Dwight, it will be to rebuild. Lakers have no assets, valuable draft picks, or cap space for Dwight.

Your franchise will be just fine, they actually know how to build and win. In my opinion, you need a solid PG more than a C, Fisher isn't cutting it.

I don't car where Howard goes, but Orlando would be raving idiots to let him walk.

At the very least, they HAVE TO explore sign and trades to unload Howard with Arenas and Turkoglu.

Hell. I'd rather dump Howard, Arenas, and Turkoglu for expirings than to watch Howard go to Brooklyn and be left with the contracts of Arenas and (especially) Turkoglu.
