Bynum Is Untouchable

Yahoo! Sports reportsthat we do know one thing about him: he remains deadset on holding onto Lakers center Andrew Bynum.
Now, Jim Buss has two guys in the franchise: Brown and Andrew Bynum. In fact, Buss has made something clear within the Lakers, sources say: Bynum is untouchable in trade talks.
For now, this could include a sign-and-deal for the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard. The Lakers are Howard’s preference, but they don’t have salary cap space to sign him. They’ll need a deal that includes Bynum to the Magic, but there are those seriously doubting Jim Buss’ desire to make such a trade. After all, Bynum was Jim Buss’ discovery, his pet project and believes Bynum will ultimately resonate as the son’s personal Lakers legacy.
Buss’ loyalty will be Bynum and Brown. These are his guys now.
Now Buss is saying Bynum's untouchable. Bynum is a great player but can we really pass up a chance to get Dwight? Also, Buss seems like like he is trying to divide this team now that he got "His" coach. First he doesn't consult the team about hiring Brown, now this, whats next?..... Thoughts anyone?

Jim is running this team now and not his father and Jim was the one who found Bynum and there is no way that he is going to give up on him because then he would look like he made a bad decision. Now that I have heard this I am more than positive that Brown was hired because Brown likes Bynum and thinks that he can be the biggest reason that our defense next year will be amazing.
A better question that should have been asked by the yahoo reporter should have been are there any other players on the team that aren't untouchable? It sounds crazy that Jim would say that there are two people who are untouchable and those two people were not Bynum and Bryant but instead Bynum and Brown. I highly doubt that the lakers trade kobe however I do think that LO may not have a secure job and also Pau the same if Jim thinks that we can get an elite PG or a package with Pau and others for Howard.

Jim Buss is so stupid..I wouldn't be surprised if he declined a deal that invovles Dwight and Bynum straight up........

We will see how stupid he is or isn't in the future however, A straight up swap for Bynum and Howard would never happen and if it came out that Jim straight up turned down a one for one swap I think that he would be killed by some crazed fan.

I have a feeling we're heading down a long road of hardship.

We're blazing a new trail, and with any new trail the outcome is never set in stone. The Phil Jackson Era is over, the Jim Buss Era is beginning. As fans we should all be supportive and hope for the best, if it fails then we'll know specifically who to blame.

Certainly. This is a new beginning and a fresh start for the LA Lakers and we'll have to expect some growing pains going forward. But I sense a road of ruin under Jim Buss. I get the impression that he's trying to be something he's not or as some like to say "he's trying to be Jerry Buss". Only time will tell whether or not his methods pay off but I have some negativity towards our future.
Oh and I see this little article as nothing more than a leverage tactic by Buss. He cannot be this stupid.

I don't think even Jim Buss is that foolish. If a guy he drafts can land us a player like Dwight Howard in a trade that's enough vindication right there for making that call for any person and he should be genuinely proud of it.
I'd rather think this is a confidence building exercise for Bynum and I find no reason to be skeptic unless someone comes out with a report that we did indeed rejected a deal for Howard by dangling over Bynum.

To me, I don't think there's a such thing as a truely 'Untouchable' player in the NBA... It's nice to throw those terms around... But you have to be an idiot to pass up the money that would flow Jimmy Buss' way if a draw like Howard could come our way for Bynum and pieces...
Or spoiled ... Or both...
Getting Dwight for Bynum would be like turning on a money fountain for the Buss'... He's not that much of an idiot.

Even if we know who to blame, nothing can be done to him, unlike a GM who could be fired, Jim wouldn't fire himself lol.

just speculation from wojo
the quickness to jump on anything negative about jim buss is getting a little silly.

It's because Jim's still an unkown quanitity. Mitch said on Dan Patrick today that ultimately Dr. Jerry Buss makes the calls still, so I think it's just the popular narriative right now.
That being said, the Lakers are doing an awful job of transitioning this team for the fans, I don't see why they don't just lift the veil already. Or in Jim Buss' case the greasy hat.

If Buss is keeping Bynum, there is no way there trading Pau, Odom, etc, for Dwight ... a Bynum/Dwight combo would surely be "Twin Towers" but would have a lot of issues too.
If Bynum is truly untouchable then I could see Pau and/or LO being traded for a legit PG and a hard nosed PF ... maybe something like:
Odom and Blake for Felton and K-Mart
Pau/Odom/Blake/Ebanks for CP3/Okafor/Ariza
Pau and Walton for Stephen Jackson, Tyrus Thomas, Diop and the #19 pick
Pau and Walton for Baron, Varejo, Hollins, Parker and the #4 pick
(The above is very realistic depending on how highly the Lakers value the #4 pick)
A variant of the above would be:
Pau and Walton for Jamison, Sessions, Varejo and the #4 pick

No doubt. And if I learned one thing about wojo, it's that he loves to villify LeBron when he can, and sides with whatever camp he thinks Kobe will be in. It's blatant. These are two areas his bias shines like a supernova.

Kobe used to be in Wojo's doghouse after Shaq and until he started winning.
I find him to be a very well connected and brave writer although he does exaggerate on negative things.

Yeah, who knows where Wojo get's his **** or why he's still at Yahoo!, but he does tend to focus on bringing negative aspects of news stories to light.
