Do We Need A Big?
Everybody has been talking about bringing in a new point guard (Which we need), but we also need a big off the bench since we will most likely depart with Smith and Ratliff. What does everybody think about Samuel Dalembert? (6'11, and long) he can play tremendous D and is a great shot blocker. I think he'd make a great fit on our team. Plus Drew and Pau need a reserve off the bench.

Re: Do We Need A Big?
With the CBA still in a flux, I have no clue what our funds are for the next season. Assuming we still have the MLE to use, I'd rather we focus on finding guys that can address our bigger areas of weakness. A back-up big off the bench like Sam would be nice to have, but he'd be more of a luxury than anything. We really need to address issues with the funds we have rather than bolster a position we're already solid at.

A back up big that's not going to be in a history museum pretty soon is an absolute necessity if we don't want to see a repeat performance of this year from Gasol.

I don;t see how Dalembert is attainable though. If the Heat, who have an obvious weakness at center with Ilgauskus and Juwan Howard retiring offer him the same money as we do, we all know who he will pick.

That is exactly what I am worried about... if the heat win the title this year, everybody will flock to their team. This is probably the worst we will see them this year.

joel pr spell check would be cool if healthy. sammy D is almost impossible for us to get cuz NY has some money and a glaring need at center. aforementioned miami would be frontrunners. to answer ur question.. we absolutely need a big. a legit big. not super talented, just someone who could rbd, guard his position, play about 15 a night, maybe hit an occasional J. the 3 man big rotation of pau drew lamar is uber talented but one more guy to lighten the workload would be ideal and almost vital.

Re: Do We Need A Big?
I actually like Caracter's game a lot. His glaring fault seemed to be that he was always rushing things. If he figures out how to be patient and just slow things down I think he could be that legitimate 15-20 min big off the bench. His jumper is a particularly nice fit with bynum, but he can also bang hard down low if he's in w/ pau.
I think the yr of experience and a new coach that doesn't despise rookies might do wonders for him.

I think that the Laker's FO needs to address both the front court and point guard situation. Yes, we have two of the best big men in the league. But who will we have to give those two guys a rest, as well as be an offensive and defensive presence in the paint? We don't need a another dominant big man, just a guy who can be a threat to score down low and protect the rim on defense.
The Lakers also need to find a suitable point guard. One who can play tough defense and hit open 3-point shot when the opportunity arises. However, this player doesn't need to be a true point guard... one that runs the offense and sets up everyone else. He just needs to be quick enough to deny penetration to the other PG's in the league and then also be able to hit open shots when Kobe or one of our Bigs are being double-teamed.
Whether these issues are addressed through FA, trades or the draft remain to be seen. But hopefully we don't make too many drastic changes to our roster... all we need is a couple of tweaks here and there.

A guy like the 2006 Zo or 2008 Mutombo would be great. Not complain about minutes if all 3 of our bigs are healthy and capable of starting and produce big if there is need to do so.

Re: Do We Need A Big?
Kwame Brown is a free agent this offseason. I think the Lakers should make a run at him. He would be a legit backup here which would reduce the amount of minutes our bigs are forced to play throughout the regular season. Instead of having Pau operate at center, Kwame can play with those minutes.
Gasol/Odom
Bynum/Brown

I like that idea. Wasn't MJ skind of fond of him though? Do you think we can get him for the vet min? Or will it take more than that?

Re: Do We Need A Big?
I really like Joel P. hes a true center, good defender/rebounder, hes big, a 7'1 250 pound banger and a hustle/energy guy! hes pretty much like a white Kendrick Perkins. With all that said I believe he would be the perfect fit for our bench and alongside Gasol/Odom.
Kuwameyy Burawnnn??? really? Kuwameyyyyy Burrrawnnn?
lol jk I'm cool with Kwame he'll be a good back up too.
another solid big would be Jeff Foster, a veteran, good rebounder, and a pesky defender
I also like Landry and Hayes but they'll probably would want more than the MLE.
there's a lot of good free agent bigs this coming off season. a lot of solid young bigs too! we should be able to solidify the backup center spot next season.

+1 on the Kwame move. he actually plays the PnR really well and can give our bigs some much needed rest.

also a good idea, like Evans too, solid reb albeit a bit undersized for the C spot but not really to many teams in this league who got legit backup 7foot C's.

NO Kwame hes done. Useless on offense. Joel P. or a drafted guy of quality. Something smart a defensive guy who can score if need be.

Re: Do We Need A Big?
^^^I say we go after Kurt Thomas, I wanted him last year and sure enough dude was big impact on Chi during Boozer/Noah absence. He still got some left in the tank, Chi barely used him after Noah/Boozer were together again. Dude was actually a better pressence then Noah during his short stint at C, he help spread the floor much better for Rose to drive and held his on on D.
