Lakers interested in lotto pick for Odom

Post#1 » by LAzPhenom » Mon Jun 20, 2011 10:51 pm

im not sure if i should have posted a thread about this or posted it in the transaction thread

here is the link from twitter

The Lakers biggest trade chip appears to be Lamar Odom and sounds like they're willing to use it.

Lakers discussion with the Timberwolves have centered around the #2 pick for Lamar Odom. LO would not be a fan but could be flipped by MIN.

Lakers are having discussions with other teams as well about Odom. If Lakers acquire a pick in lotto for LO than it would likely be for a PG

i think this would be a good trade for us, we could use it to land a pg in either kemba or knight

I doubt the 2 goes for Odom but we were talking about this earlier. Brandon Knight would be incredible if he slips past say the 5th pick. Then we sign K-Mart.

Would we draft Walker or Knight with the #2 pick? Or would we package it say with Bynum for Howard and Nelson? Interesting stuff flying around and it will only get crazier leading up to the draft and on draft night.

I don't think we could get that high in the draft. Based on Avery Johnson and Tony Parker I don't think Kemba is out of the equation as a smaller guard.

What's interesting is this:

- If a team gives a lottery pick for L.O. and we land a PG, the Lakers also save approximately 16m this year and 16m next year in contracts. That's 32m extra to play with in acquiring draft picks and what not.

I'm slowly yet surely warming up to the idea of trading up if that means drafting a PG. Anyone knows if we've worked out any of the lotto picks yet?

Call me crazy, but if I'm giving up Odom, I want the #2 AND Beasley back in return. That way, we get Williams/Walker to shore up our front line and/or back court for years to come. I'd love Beasley in LA.

I think it was Knight they had interest in. I'm not sure who Utah looks like they're drafting at 3.

Kemba Walker on the other hand I could easily see being available around Detroit's pick. I think a deal of Odom for the 7+TPE, Felton+22 to Denver, and Odom to Denver would be perfect.

Then the Lakers can sign K-Mart, sign Jeff Foster, and use the 7 on Kemba while still saving enough cash to buy a late first round pick.

I still can't get over the fact that Mike Brown is the damn head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Now everybody has us blowing up the three big men (Odom, Gasol, Bynum), despite not one team being able to match up with it in the league. I'm not liking this offseason, so far, that's for sure.

Utah is said to be drafting Brandon Knight. So if the Lakers want Knight they'd better get the #2 pick.

I'm just not big on lotto prospects outside of Irving who will be selected by Cleveland, so I hope this is part of some bigger deal to land Paul or something.

I don't remember hearing of any specific workouts but it sounds like Mitch has had a good chance to look at all the top players by attending the camps...

Another interesting thing in that article is that Ronnie Lester is scheduled to fly to Europe to scout talent... Which verifies he's still with the team... At least until his contract can be reworked, I guess.

Yeah I read that but we had personal workouts scheduled in the past for lottery players, Brandon Roy the most notable. So if we are looking to trade up I thought our workouts would give a good idea but noting that the coaching staff is not yet set in stone, Mitch would rather scout in combine workouts I guess.

Very interesting stuff. I only thought the lakers would part with LO if it was part of a package for deron, cp3 or dwight. But i trust mitch.

I hope that the Cavs take Williams at #1 and then Knight/Walker at #4 so that if we do get the #2 pick we can get Kyrie Irving. How amazing would a backcourt of Irving and Kobe be.

Even though the Lakers don't have a 1st Rd pick, @RicBucher says they could get involved in the 1st Rd by trying to buy a pick for $3 mill

Well, looks like its going to be a mid 20s pick.

It kind of seems like part of a bigger deal in that the Lakers are usually very targetted about who they want and this kind of sounds random... Like someone else is involved telling them to do something in order to get something...

Me neither... Brown and the whole lot... But if they are breaking up the core, they must have seen something big that was reason for concern... Maybe the reality show was a bigger deal than previously thought?

I just think, if you break up the core, it's for something big... And to me the only name that stands out is Howard... CP3 and Deron would be nice too, but even without the Triangle, we don't need an established, mid-career, superstar PG to play along side Kobe... Kobe's still going to demand a lot of touches.

I just don't know how any of it happens...

Season after season, fans have been calling for Mitch to be super active in the summer, and killing him when nothing major happens...

Well, for better or worse, it seems like they're going to get their wish this summer. This is the most static we've heard in years around the draft.

That would be fine with me. Heck I'd like two of those considering how much they're bringing in with that new TV deal.

41+3m for 25 from Boston
46+1.5m for 33 from Detroit

Better than giving guys like Steve Blake what is essentially 8m a year.

I don't.

Cavs are said to be fixed on taking Irving with the #1 pick, and are merely acting as if Williams has a chance to test the waters.

If we're moving up in the draft order hopefully it's that unrealistic deal of Pau/filler for Love/#2. If it's not that and we have no plans to make a pitch for Paul/Howard then we shouldn't be in this lottery. I'd much rather buy a mid 1st and draft Reggie Jackson.

I don't know how you can buy a mid 1st. I don't think you can buy something quite that high for just cash. If we want Reggie Jackson 3m+41+46 might do it. I'd be down for that though.

I found a list on Hoopshype... So take it for what it's worth...

http://hoopshype.com/past_workouts.htm

Nothing but Guards... Almost all of them predicted to go undrafted.

So if this is true and they still do want to break into the upper range of the Lottery, then it would have to have been a secret workout or at the camps.
