This deals with post up scoring alone. It doesn't factor in put backs or handoffs for easy scores which raise fg%.

When you look at the numbers you might be shocked about who the players are (listed below) and the actual touches they got and convert down low.

A - Andrew Bynum
B - Kobe Bryant
C - Lamar Odom
D - Pau Gasol

Thoughts

I don't think this is too surprising, if LO's plays were to triple the amount he has now, you would see the numbers go down considerably, he does not have much in terms of post moves, I would not be confident seeing LO trying to post up any more than he usually does, also, He relies heavily if not solely on his left hand.

I still think our top 3 guys in the post are Kobe, Pau and Bynum in that order.

Agree. Kobe has to be No. 1. He's so lethal offensively. The stats are probably a little misconstrued anyway.

love LO, but he really only posts up when he has an easily exploitable advantage. not surprising he's so successful yet has such a low amount of attempts.

LO only posts up when he's guarded by a guard or small forward. That will skew his numbers. Post him up against a frontcourt player and he's decidedly average.

Bynum being #1 doesn't really surprise me, he normally has the weaker frontcourt defender on him. He has about 2-3 moves he uses and they all take advantage of his height and length.

What stands out to me is Bynum is just as efficient as Gasol with over 200 less attempts

Could be wrong but its more impressive to have 200 more attempts and be as efficient as someone with less attempts. Gasol shot 50% from 3pt land in the playoffs last year. Problem is he took only 2 attempts.

Its kind of glass half empty glass half full Big Game. I see your point so its nothing to debate. My angle was the more attempts you get the better & more fluid you become. So to do it with sparringly getting the ball is impressive to me.

Backs my theory that we should've concentrated more of our attack through the post in the first place. Gotta disagree with you Big Game on one point, for Drew to have almost 239 attempts less than Pau and did the same damage on the interior is mighty damn impressive. Again it backs my theory that we should've utilized in my eyes our stronger post threat. By stronger I mean brute strength, let's not get it twisted I realize Pau is the more skilled passer and reader of defenses. But Drew given his off season training will possess a better command of the post in the future.

kobe definitely needs to be in the post more often, i didnt even need these stats to tell me that. hes noticabably more efficient than Pau, and slightly more than Drew. i think pau and drew are about the same in the post, its just drew is stronger and is better at getting put backs and is more effective in the handoff (which apparently these stats have excluded.)

i agree with cash about odom though. he doesnt really go to the post unless its off of a switch and he gets someone much smaller than him. not that thats a bad thing, since its good to exploit mismatches, but its not telling on who our best "dump it down low and let him go to work" player is.

id really like to see a Bynum/Odom/Kobe/Barnes/Rookie PG? lineup utilized more often next year, with odom playing the point forward and Bynum/Kobe going to work in the post. i like bynums ability to finish next to kobe rather than pau, who seemed to be falling in love with the jumper last year.

Good points. I'd also like to see the Bynum, Gasol, & Odom front line from time to time instead of always saying its too slow to work. Take advantage of the size then when teams go small, make substitutions

I think Artest could benefit more from being in the post, he is IMO better there then Odom, he actually bullys his way and overpowers most SF in the league. Unfortunately its to crowded down there but he was still decent in Hou and during his tenure in Sac, he was a LOAD, I remember him and Bonzi Wells jsut abusing SA in the playoffs that one year.

I'd like to have artest have as few offensive touches a possible, and definetly nothing in the iso for him. We have 4 players who are much better at it, and there's no need to "waste" possessions on him. Playing in the post isn't just having the ability to bully a player and score on him. You have to be a competent passer and read the defense instead of forcing things. There's no reason or artest to ever be in the post for this team. Unfortunately for him, that's where he seems to be most comfortable offensively, which still makes me wonder why we let a guy who fit much better in Ariza go. Can't change the past though, so I just hope ebanks and barnes can take up a bigger chunk of Rons minutes.

I wonder if artest will learn the new offense.

id love to see Artest in the Anthony Parker role, but i doubt he would accept it, or stay within it.
