I was about to make/ask for a thread regarding what Laker players have been up to during the lock out. Fiba tournaments, Drew League, etc.

watched the game last night. good news Laker fans! Pau bulked up and there was no sign that he lost his speed with the added weight!

Another good game for Pau Gasol Sunday against a pretty decent team:
"Spain swept host Lithuania 91-79 Sunday night to advance to the second round of the European basketball championship... LA Lakers center Pau Gasol finished with 17 points.

France beat Italy 91-84... Boris Diaw getting 21 points. Nicolas Batum of the Portland Trail Blazers added 20... Parker was kneed in the left thigh by Andrea Bargnani on the second play of the game...

Serbia ... overcoming 25 points from Dirk Nowitzki to beat Germany 75-64. Chris Kaman had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Germany."

Unfortunately Pau tweaked his ankle on Sunday:
"Los Angeles star Pau Gasol (214-F/C-80) suffered a minor ankle sprain in Spain's 91-79 victory over host Lithuania last Sunday. On Monday, the coaching staff of Spain never took any risk of putting Pau Gasol on the floor despite losing to Turkey, 57-65."

but was playing again today:

"Pau Gasol (214-F/C-80) is back to the Second-Round-Win opener over Germany. His brother however was the top-scorer in the important win over the German team, 77:68...
Marc Gasol stepped up with 24 points and Pau Gasol added 19. Juan Carlos Navarro notched 14, while San Emeterio added 12. Dirk Nowitzki netted 19 in defeat and Chris Kaman posted 15."

Tremendous game by Pau yesterday. He only missed two shots. He dominates the game. His Brother Marc was so great too

Pau was great all tournament long except the first half with Germany

He is shooting 64% from the field and even hitting his 3's(5/6).Good to see, maybe he was just tired in the playoffs and he will be back to his former self when the regular season starts.

Just about the only thing I hate about the Mediterranean are those killer gravel beaches 8-)

Eurobasket: what's with all those ex-Yugoslavs? Slovenia, Macedonia and Serbia are all in quarterfinals. Looks like only the Croats can't go back home now:
"Quarter-Finals - Day 1
Sep. 14, 2011 18:00 Spain-Slovenia (Kaunas)
Sep. 14, 2011 FYR Macedonia-Lithuania (Kaunas)
Quarter-Finals - Day 2
Sep. 15, 2011 18:00 France-Greece (Kaunas)
Sep. 15, 2011 Russia-Serbia " per eurobasket.com

Has anyone seen the spain-macedonia match? Pau has not play very good but he has done 22 pts, 13 rebs and 4 asists. The best of all has been the Juan Carlos Navarro's exhibition: 35 points and 19 at the third quarter that destroys Makedonia.
Lakers had to sign Navarro when he was a free agent. He would have been a good complement for the team

Navarro played in the NBA and sucked. Some players just don't translate well across the continent.

Actually 22 points and 17 rebounds. He still didn't have a very good game, he was hacked all game long with no calls and we all know how that affects him.

No he didn't.

He made all rookie 2nd team behind Horford, Durant, Scola, Thornton, and Green.
(with Moon, Stuckey, Landry, and Thaddeus Young)

He also hit 156 3three's his rookie year which is just 10 shy of Stephen Curry's rookie season record while logging almost 800 minutes less for the year than Curry played his rookie season.

Curry ... 2896 minutes ... 166 threes
Navarro ... 2117minutes ... 156 threes

The very next year (after Pau was traded mid-season) his old team offered him over 17million to come back to Spain (I believe to his actual hometown where his wife, kids, and family lived), while he was working off a 2nd round rookie contract with Memphis (less than 1 million for 2 more years)... that's why he didn't come back and it was absolutely the right move for him to make, I don't blame him one bit.

I'm not saying he was as good as Curry and I'm not trying to argue but saying his game didn't translate and he sucked is not right. He's an absolute superstar in Spain while in the NBA he's a 2nd rounder without much of a chance...which would any of us choose given the situation?
