Just a quick question. If we were to trade Odom this year for say a Monta Ellis or iguodala (which may give us youth but doesn't necessarily make us that much better) is it possible we'll welcome him back after his current contract is up?

I actually believe we need LO's versatility, but if he can bring us back some youth and athleticism in a trade I think we should consider it, and look into bringing him back for vets min, once his contract is up. Thoughts?

I would hope so, with the likes of Byron, AC, Fish...who did return. Anyone else come back over the years? But the two you listed I'm not a fan of, both solves one problem but creates another, Monta would give us more scoring at PG but is that what we need with Bynum/Pau/Kobe already hogging up the shots? Iggy gives us athletcism with elite D but his shooting leaves alot to be desired and if he doesn't have the ball in his hand is he as effective? I would prefer a 2 for 1, a better PG and a lesser PF, say some how getting Devin Harris and a backup PF or something along that line or that Nelson/Anderson deal is nice.

I only mentioned those two because those are the names he has been linked to over the summer. Certainly not limited to those either, me for one have always been a fan of possibly bringing in Mayo to solve the PG position (although he would have to learn how to distribute in that position)

Why would Odom come back for the vets minimum when he can get a good 7 mil offer from any team in the league? Hell Miami might throw the full MLE (if there is one available) at him.

Odom for Monta Ellis really?

why not? I can't think of any reason we'd say good riddance. I think we would have even taken Nick the Quick back. It would surely be a business decision if we did trade him.

I can't see any reason why you wouldn't.

I can see a lot of reasons why he wouldn't though. Odom would be perfect for Miami, and a bunch of other teams would be willing to pay good money.

Also, Ellis for Odom? In what universe would anyone trade Ellis for Odom?:o

what's sad is that whatever money Lamar makes playing basketball when you take into account that he may have to stretch that money over the rest of his and her life that won't be enough for anyone in that familys life's style standards.

i'd attempt at packaging artest and a filler before i decide to trade odom...

the only way odom gets packaged is if we get an elite guard in return

I might be the minority here but I'd trade one of Gasol/Bynum before I trade Odom. Odom fits perfectly with one of the two bigs, not to mention Gasol/Bynum has more trade value.

his Kardashian has a show in Miami though.

a team should be desperate to trade one of their (probably key) piece for Odom. unless they don't need that player in exchange for Odom or they see LO has a quick fix and is vital for their run for a ring, I don't see it happening.

let's say LO is willing to return once his contract expires. only team that will trade with LA is someone who doesn't want to use Lamar, only sees him as cap relief (if their player has a fat contract) and is desperately wanting to get rid of whoever they are trading.

c'mon I don't think anyone would trade Odom for Ellis straight up there would need to be fillers. Like I said I only mentioned those two because those are the names he's been linked to since before the draft. I can't be the only Laker fan that has heard these rumors. I probably should have just said trading Odom for anyone in general. But for those who need it. see links below

^ in no way do kobe and ellis work together....on top of that, getting rid of our backup for the injury prone bynum...this trade would be disastrous....
im stressing it over and over...odom is coming off one of the best seasons of his career as a 6th man....his stock is high and hes on a pretty good contract....the only way LA packages him away is for a VERY GOOD POINT GUARD, or another versatile forward--most of them arent much better fits than lamar anyways.

Maybe Memphis would want some insurance for Randolph. There have been questions about weather they could affords both Gay and Mayo next year when Mayo becomes a free agent. That wouldn't be a problem if Odom was only on the hook for 2.4 million. Odom for Mayo and Arthur. Or a three way with Odom and Blake going to Indy, Mayo and Arthur going to the Lakers and Tyler Hansbourogh and a 2round pick going to Memphis (Indy could have a very high 2nd rd pick next season). Meanwhile, the Lakers absorb the 2.7 million contract of Dahnthay Jones with their trade exception.
