One thing I've noticed, Lakers dominated the top 10. :D

Actually, it's not one man's opinion. It always helps to read the introduction

One of the better rankings I've seen, if not the best. Of course I disagree with a few of the players and their rankings, but for the most part, it hits the nail in the head.

As for Nowitzki's championship, it has to go down as one of the most well-earned and hard-fought accomplishments in NBA history.

But winning a ring by joining forces with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen isn't nearly as impressive as chipping away year-after-year with a ragtag bunch of Mavericks in Dallas before finally winning a championship.

You act as if a team with the highest payroll in the league and a rotation of 6 top 10 picks (7 in the lottery) is rag-tag. All of them veterans. IDK, I think you're undervaluing the fact that for a decade Dirk was put into a great position to win and never fully maximized on his own potential until now.

Yes it was an ungodly run and should go down as nothing short of legendary, but to undervalue the sheer value of that team...seems a little unbalanced.

Anyone who thinks somehow the Mavs were this scrappy bunch of underdogs pretty much illustrates the fact that the majority of commentators and fans had long hopped off the bandwagon (deservedly so).

With the way a past-prime KG anchored that Celtics defense in 2008, makes me wonder if he had the benefit of a decade under an owner like Cuban, what that would have meant for his legacy.

I'd be interested to hear what others think.

this is showcasing the mind-boggling standard of conservatism in player estimation these days. kobe is very obviously ranked too low. i mean seriously, with all objectivity i can come up with.. this is too low. why can't the guy finally get the credit he deserves?

Kobe's better than Bird and Duncan, and Shaq is arguable.

i hear what hes saying. we cant argue by putting malone/barkley/kg in dirks situation because that never happened and we can only speculate.

however, if the author is talking about kg not wanting the ball in the clutch, i think the 2006 dallas collapse needs to be taken into consideration, referees aside. you could argue his vindication with a ring this year is similar to kg winning a ring in boston after years of being the man in minny. arguing kg playing with ray and pierce and rondo could be combated with the fact that they played against a lakers team that went on to win a couple straight, and they won in the first year of playing together, something dallas cant say. added to the fact that kg excels at both ends of the floor, someone could draw different conclusions.

playing devils advocate, the author put jerry west considerably high playing with gail goodrich and wilt and elgin, although the latter two were at the tail end of their careers. dirk played with kidd and pretty much carried the offensive load and his fourth quarters were the stuff of legends, comparable to mr. clutch. you could argue that dirk could be higher or jwest should be lower.

in weighing championships, individual success, players that competed alongside the player, etc. its all subjective. overall, nice list compiled

Wilt has no business being above Kareem or Magic, and Oscar has no business being above Hakeem, Kobe, or West.

What this list falls victim to, like many other lists, is that they don't seem to take into account how well a player keeps up his production in the playoffs. That should absolutely matter because it's conducive to, you know, winning championships, and it's the only reason that a guy like Wilt continually gets ranked so damn high.

I love the sportscard pics, though it would have been better to actually show each players best RC not some random thing ... they should have shown my Kobe Topps Chrome BGS 10 RC :-)

Anyways, the list is garbage ... Russel at #2 is a joke ... the guy is the EXACT SAME size as Tayshaun Prince ... he would have been eaten alive by Shaq. Kobe at #10 is silly ... the author quotes West as saying Kobe the greatest Laker ever but has Kareem, Magic and Shaq all listed ahead of Kobe ... hahaha, goofy.

TOP 10:

M.J.
KAREEM
KOBE
MAGIC
SHAQ
WILT
RUSSEL
OSCAR
HAKEEM
PETTIT

The quotes aren't 'goofy' but they are full of hyperbole.

Your anti-Russell comments are ridiculous. What more could he possibly have done in his career? If you're going to use his height against him, then how come Wilt didn't dominate him at 7'1"?

Your Laker bias is beyond ridiculous.

As for the cards used as pictures, they are from my personal collection so they are not 'random' at all.

I used to think Russell was overrated, too. Then I actually studied what he did. Whether or not he would translate into today's game doesn't really matter. What he did stands the test of time and deserves the ultimate respect.

Was thrilled to catch one of his old games the other day on NBA TV. An old Finals game against the Lakers from 62 or 63. Cousy's last game. Had at least five blocked shots in the first half, but I kept thinking how quiet he was, and ineffective on offense.

Then I looked up the box score for the game: 12 points, 24 rebounds, nine assists, and well over five blocks in a championship clincher. Truly great.

Okay, I can go with that ...

Your anti-Russell comments are ridiculous. What more could he possibly have done in his career? If you're going to use his height against him, then how come Wilt didn't dominate him at 7'1"?

You're kidding right? WILT DID DOMINATE RUSSEL!

Wilt and Russell played against each other 142 times in 10 years. In those games Wilt averaged 28.7 ppg and 28.7 rpg, Russell averaged 14.5ppg and 23.7rpg ... READ THAT AGAIN ... Wilt averaged 14.2 more points per game and 5 more rebounds per game than Russel when they faced each other ... WILT KILLED BILL, JUST MURDERED HIM! In todays NBA where stats aren't so inflated that's like Russel averaging 9.8 points and 5 rebounds compared to Wilt averaging 24 and 10 ... sorry sir but that is a DWIGHT HOWARD vs. JOEL ANTHONY comaprison!

Wilt's high game vs. Russell was 62, and he had six other 50+ point games against Russell . Russell's high game against Wilt was 37, and he had only two other 30+ point games against Wilt.

Wilt's record 55 rebound game was against Russell, and he had six other 40+ rebound games vs. Bill.
Russell only had one 40+ rebound night against Wilt.

Your Laker bias is beyond ridiculous.

Sorry sir, but you're wrong again ... I'm not even a natural Laker fan! I love the Lakers because I love Kobe, period. If Kobe was traded to the Toronto raptors for Derozan and Calderon the Raps would instantly become my favorite team and I would care the less whether the Lakers won the title or went 0-82. I grew up Piston fan, hating the Lakers! I liked Magic as he was a Michigan boy and won a title at MSU (my family's alma mater) but I couldn't stand Kareem or Worthy (who my auntie busted for picking up a prostitute), etc.

I like and respect Bill Russel MUCH, MUCH MORE than Kareem .. I simply acknowldge he was nowhere near as good a player. Bill Russel in todays NBA would be a skinner version of what Zo Mourning was ... a good leader and great warrior but nothing "all-time-special".

As for the cards used as pictures, they are from my personal collection so they are not 'random' at all.

Oh, okay, cool ... I didn't know that. It's nice to see another collector on here ... I've often thought of running some sort of real gm competition where the winner would receive a 1/1 card or auto'd rc or some such thing ... but my cards are precious to me so I've just hoarded them for myself, hahahaha ... that and I think the dudes on this forum might be to cheap to make it worth my while ... I'm not sticking my Kobe Chrome BGS 10 Rc on here to have 30 guys pay $10 a piece to be in the competition ... if I could get 40 guys at $40 each I'd consider it :-)
