My suggestion for success this season!

Assuming we wont sign anybody but our rookies, there is one internal move we should definitely make:

START LAMAR ODOM AT THE 3!

Blake - Fish
Kobe - Brown - Gouldelock
Odom - Artest - Barnes - Luke
Gasol - Odom
Bynum - Gasol - Ratliff

Starting Odom at the 3 gives us better 3 pt shooting and more length and rebounding. Ron has obviously lost a couple steps, so i'd relegate him to the 6th man role. Basically Kobe and Gasol would be the primary scoring options, and Artest would be the first man to come in for Bynum. I'd then bring Bynum back in as part of the second unit to end the first quarter

Second unit:

Fish (no better player at throwing the entry pass to the post)
Brown (becomes the second option on offense)
Barnes
Artest (Has the size to matchup with 4's, and who knows if his 3 ball comes back any better)
Bynum (1st option on the second unit, may also serve as a showcase for Dwight)

So in essence, i'm saying we should start and finish games with Odom at the 3, something Phil did very little. Im also saying to bring Bynum off the court first so he can be the primary option on the second unit

Thoughts?

Brown is no longer a Laker. We will see him in a Bulls or Knicks jersey next season (whenever it starts)

I honestly hope we get the ability to cut a contract and can cut Luke then use whatever exceptions we get out of this new CBA to sign a solid SG/SF 3 point shooter or defender and pick up another big body with a min deal.

Also we need Steve Blake to do something in my opinion.

Martell Webster would probably be the best/easiest we can get. And I actually would love that pick up. Wish we can find a taker for Metta this year though (here's to dreaming)

Maybe Metta will come back in great shape with his new name ready to dominate the league for one final year on the defensive end!

I like the idea of starting L.O. at 3....i dont know how artest would feel about that though.

as far as trades go...i think artest can land us a serviceable PG...andre miller, jose calderon, or someone of that caliber.

I'd like to see matt barnes be the 1st option off the bench

I dont like that idea, Odom is perfect off the bench, name me any other team that can bring such a talent at the forward spot of the bench? There's plenty of Metta guys out there coming off the bench and he's not exactly a scoring machine either.

Agreed. Odom off the bench is a luxury no other team in the NBA has. What I would like to see more of is Bynum/Gasol/Odom in the line up at times when the match ups dictate so. I hated Phil's approach of "that line up is too slow" without ever really seeing what they could accomplish. Even if its a little slow on one end, it's too big for the opponent on the other end.

that lineup wasnt just slow, it **** up the spacing because LO can't shoot consistently.

Odom is the better shooter, and can take people off the dribble...opening up some looks for Fish and Kobe

No, he's definitely not a scorer but his shooting isnt good enough to stay at the 3, i think he needs to start transitioning towards being a 4.

4 with mediocre jumper > 3 with mediocre jumper

I think we need the changeup, perhaps we dont need to start that way but it should definitely be the unit ending games

I'd rather keep our starting lineup I like Odom to be our sixth man off the bench and I hope we sign a shooting guard to replace brown and get a backup for bynum because pau and odom or bynum and odom can't work for the whole 48 mins. Pau and Odom are getting older.

If Pau grows a set we'll be fine.

They wont be a season.. besides starting odom at the 3 and having peace come in as a 4 is, no offense, but a horrible idea. Peace does have the strenght to be 4 but would be giving up a lot in height. With the entire season being cancelled i dont think you want a 6'11 33-34 year old odom guarding the opposing teams wing players...
besides all this team needs to be succesful is as peace put it play as family. we all saw what that did to the mavs

thats because Odom is getting guarded by backup PF's, if they backup off of him it gives him space obviously to shoot and when they crowd him he drives...he will not have this advantage being guarded by other teams SF.....and say you use the "size" advantage....what you gona do post up Odom and have Bynum/Pau stand aroudn and watch? Odom isn't exactly some beast in the post, he likes to do his work from the top of the key.

Not sure I agree Aki. LO can shoot the 3 & Pau has more that a consistent 15 footer. We need 2 take start taking advantage of having 3 agile 7 footers.
