Could we get Shane Battier?

Post#1 » by CodyB_ » Wed Oct 26, 2011 10:26 pm

I'm reading he's a Free Agent.

Do you think we could get him for the MLE? (if it still exists)

I know he's kind of overlapping Rons role, but he has a much better 3pt set shot and is much more composed. I think he'd gel really well with Kobe and Pau. He is underrated as a passer and can actually post a little bit as well. He is getting old, but if we put him on a 2 year deal, we'd still be huge players in the 2013 FA market.

Thoughts? I know he has given Kobe fits on D in the past, and some of you resent him for that, but this guy is probably the best character guy in the league that isn't Tim Duncan.

He doesn't seem like he'd want to play for the Lakers, idk why but I never got an LA vibe off the dude. I'd love to have him and get rid of Ron though.

people resent battier? i doubt it.

anywhoo, agree with gk, battier has never given me any reason to think he would come to LA. i think he'd be happy to stay with memphis. for the lakers, im almost certain they wouldn't put more money into a position where they're locked into artest/walton and still have barnes for one more yr too.

Battier isn't the type of guy you envision in a Lakers jersey, but he is just what we need. Gasol wasn't really the Laker type either.. the Lakers are a cerebral team, regardless of the perceptions..

I dont really agree with the battier doesnt seem to want to play for the Lakers cuz its not like Blake (former Portland pg who killed us on the 3 pt line), artest (wacko dude who seemed to hate kobe especially after that playoff game hou vs lal), and barnes (pretended to throw a ball at kobes face while inbounding) seemed to want to play for us either. key is he would fit nice.. personally a quality back up big, young 3 pt shooting/defensive minded pg are tops on my list tho.

With a new system, artest/barnes could be exactly what we need or be just enough. however we need a turiaf type of big..someone whos got some fire.. glen davis?? hehe or arron brooks.. not defensive but quick as heck and killer 3 pt shot.

Bringing in another SF isn't a priority for the Lakers this offseason they need a backup C, backup PF, and a backup SG.

Who didn't envision barnes as a laker? he needs to die his hair, bulk up, get a piercing and be our mini dennis.

Its not like we don't have enough nonathletic small forwards on the roster.

I would hope we are aiming for someone younger and not at the SF position for the MLE (if there is one) I for one would be a little disappointed if this is the route we go
“If this is his team, that means no more coming into camp fat/out of shape, no more blaming others for our team’s failure, my team doesn’t mean only when we win it means carrying the burden of defeat just as gracefully as you carry a championship trophy.”

not really needed unless we can boot Walton to the curb, besides we need some "athletes" on this team, give Ebanks more PT.

Lakers need a consistent three point shooter. Lakers have the big man, but no one respects Artest's shot. Everybody packs the paint too much. We need someone who is consistent with the three.

I'd much rather have him than Artest at this point. If we could use the amnesty rule to rid ourselves of Artest (or Walton, for that matter) Battier would be a great pickup.

- he can actually shoot the 3
- he is older but has lift and can finish simple layups/dunks around the basket
- great glue guy
- better defender than Artest at this point
- doesn't ask for plays run for him

Nothing but positives.
