Offical Lakers Rumor Thread!

The Lakers are curious to see if veteran point guard Baron Davis gets cut by Cleveland. He has two years and $28.7 million left on his contract, though he can be signed for substantially less than that. The Lakers also want a shooter and are monitoring whether forward Rashard Lewis (two years, $43.8 million remaining) gets waived by Washington.

Nice, just the two amnesty victims I wanted to see here.

How does anyone feel about Roy being signed and given limited minutes?

I keep on forgetting what a horrible contract Rashard has. Great for him, not so much for whoever is paying him.

If we get those two, Lakers will be heavy favorites for sure.

But I could easily see a bunch of amnestied players signing with the Heat too...

Naw...I think players have a problem with what the heat did. I think they kind of frown upon it. I could be wrong. People want to beat the heat, not join them.

I'd rather see Baron than Rashard. Don't like those guys who are nearly 7 feet & only want to bomb 3's.

Baron causes a logjam no one is going to take Fisher or Blake off the Lakers hands. Rashard has a decent post game and he can rebound not that great a defender he started at PF for the Magic when they made the finals couple years back. He'll probably be the best shooter available if he is amnestied and becomes an FA.

If he can get back to 40% from 3pt land Ill take Rashard. Teams with one good 7 footer let alone 2 needs shooters.

He'll get the same looks here as he did in Orlando... as teams collapse on Bynum or Gasol, Lewis will be wide open.

Davis would still be my choice if I had to choose between the two.

I think he will get better looks on the lakers than he did with Orlando. Teams would have to deal with Kobe, Gasol, and Bynum, not just D.Howard

...or it could be Dwight Howard kicking out to him. 8-)

I'll gladly take Shard and Baron. Rashard is a 3 that was forced to play as a 4 in SVG's offense. He can happily start at the 3 and he won't have to do any ball handling with Baron, Lamar and Kobe on the floor anyways, he could just play Robert Horry's role and bomb from 3 all day long.

Or he could play the 4 on offense and 3 on defense with Lamar guarding the opposing PF.

Gasol/Bynum
LO/Gasol/Rashard
Rashard/Artest/Ebanks
Kobe/Barnes
Baron/Blake/Fisher

will work pretty fine.

I dont know how accurate that LA TImes article is but the Lakers won't get both Rashard and Baron it'll be just one of them. Also I doubt Rashard starts on the Lakers I think Artest will keep his spot in the starting 5 Rashard will be the 2nd or 3rd guy off the bench. He's a defensive liability so he won's start in a Mike Brown defense.
Lakers Depth Chart With Rashard
PG. Fisher, Blake, Morris
SG. Kobe Barnes, Ebanks
SF. Artest, Rashard, Kobe, Barnes, Ebanks
PF. Pau, Odom, Rashard, Caracter
C. Bynum, Pau, Free Agent

Maybe Lewis could start at the 3 for us? Would be one huge team.

There's a rumor going around that the Lakers might not sign any amnesty players. You know, since teams only below the cap can request to sign amnestied players and with the Lakers being over, aren't allowed to. Cool story.

Davis yes... Lewis?! Ummm no way jose!

Over the cap. But nice rumor to start the year off. I think they will get juicier and make more sense with this new CBA. More teams will shed players only to keep core stars and fill the rest in with rookies and cheap vets. I actually think our young players will be somewhat of a hot commodity. I would hate to see them moved.

I heard a rumor that there's a 2 year grace period before the restrictions of the new CBA go into effect. So the provisions of the previous CBA should still be in effect...

Maybe we go nuts for a couple years and see what happens.

Aren't all of our big contracts up in 2 years anyway?

I was gonna argue that I don't see B. Diddy working well within Phil's triangle offense. Now I'm tearfully hitting the submit button, not worrying about which of the two we get.
