Bynum appeals suspension, hopes it gets reduced

The NBA season will be 20.5% shorter than usual, and the Lakers hope Andrew Bynum's five-game suspension gets trimmed as well.

Bynum appealed the league-imposed penalty through the players' union but has not been formally told whether it would be reduced. It's been low on the priority list for obvious reasons, mainly the players and owners still hammering out a collective-bargaining agreement.

Bynum was suspended after committing a flagrant foul on Dallas guard J.J. Barea in the final game of last season's Western Conference semifinals.

Because of the lockout length, the season will be 66 games instead of the usual 82....

make it 4 games, it makes all the sense in the world. i made the 4 game suggestion awhile back, so i take full credit if it happens.

That would be nice. In a shortened season we need all the wins we can get.

Reducing it to 4 seems reasonable.

Seems like a reasonable request. I would be surprised if it was not reduced a game.

Yeah it would be nice but Good Luck with that, even I know that was a brutal elbow. Accept the suspension and move on Bynum.

Whatever he ends up getting, he needs to knock that isht off. He's got a rep now, and the suspensions/fines are only going to get bigger.

As others have noted, since we have a shortened season a shortened suspension is a sensible idea. But I don't think the league office cares much about that and it'll remain 5 games. Still worth a shot and can't fault Bynum for at least trying.

since the season is reduced by 20%, so should the suspension, and reducing the 5 game suspension by 20% would make it 4 games.. seems very fair.

Fines are all increased by 25% to recuperate the potential gains from 20% game reduction too!

It should be reduced. If it had need a full 82 games then yes 5 because he would have still played in 77 games. Now it would take him down to 61

If 20.5% of the season is gone, then his suspension should be reduced by the same.

Will never happen. Will stay at 5 games. The only silver lining is that the first 5 games are grouped so closely together, that we'll see Bynum playing a week after the season opener. Don't know about you guys, but I much prefer waiting a week to waiting months because he's injured or recovering from surgery.
