Woj: Rockets Still Interested In Pau Gasol

The Houston Rockets still have a longing for Gasol, but the Lakers would want a player the Rockets are most reluctant to part with: point guard Kyle Lowry. The Lakers could probably pry a combination of Kevin Martin and Luis Scola for Gasol, league sources said, but it’s doubtful they’ll move Gasol without solving their point guard problem. Lowry has developed into one of the league’s finest point guards, but Rockets general manager Daryl Morey isn’t trading him.

Isn't Dragic still on their roster?

Scola blows and his contract is worse. Unless its a 3 way that moves Scola elsewhere, not a huge fan.

We need a PG, depth & some size if we trade Gasol and Houston can provide all three... Send Gasol to Houston for Scola (6’9” PF), Lee (6’5” SG) & Dragic (6’5” PG)... We get depth, tougher and a legit young PG... We have the lowest scoring bench in the league (20 points a game) & need to upgrade... This trade is a "win win" for both teams...

PG: Blake (6’3”) & Dragic (6’5”)
SG: Kobe (6’6”) & Lee (6’5”)
SF: Barnes (6’8”) & Ebanks (6’9”)
PF: Scola (6’9) & McRoberts (6’10”)
C: Bynum (7’1”) & Murphy (6’11”)

Our second unit would be solid, Scola plays hard and will complement Bynum and we get a PG that is legit... Scola hustles... As long as Bynum stays healthy, we will copete with this squad and get younger...

Is that you, The Trade Seer?

Pau's salary over the next 3 years

11/12: $18,714,150
12/13: $19,000,000
13/14: $19,285,850

Total: $57,000,000

Scola's salary over the next 4 years

11/12: $8,591,793
12/13: $9,408,207
13/14: $10,224,622
14/15: $11,041,037 (Unguaranteed)

Total: $39,265,659

Waive Scola off in 2014 and you'd be looking at a total of $28,224,622. Pretty good value for talented big such as Scola.

Scola has a reasonable salary in todays world... Luke Walton makes $5.68 million...

I agree. I am a Magic fan by association(my wife and son loves them) and I watched Lee and he has a lot of heart. Dwight was a little upset when the Magic FO traded him. He would be a good pick up for us. Do it Mitch!!

I'd much rather have Martin over Lee. By like a landslide.

me too...but we need a PG. And they aint giving up Lowry! and Dragic is alot better than Flynn!

What a sec...come to think about, the numbers wont match in that trade anyway...so nevermind. They would almost HAVE to settle for Scola & Martin for Pau. THOSE numbers work fine. Sorry. Excuse my ignorance!

I'm guessing Dragic would still be included considering he was in the original deal. If so the Lakers should take that deal as soon as possible. Sure Scola isn't as good as Pau, but Dragic and Martin would fill our need. Even if they don't, you could always package Martin and Bynum for Howard and Turkgolu.

We'd be about a little over $3 mil for Dragic/Scola/Martin, so we could probably include Blake and get Dragic back. I'm sure Houston wouldn't mind Blake as long as they're getting Gasol.

Yeah I agree, and consequently, I don't think it's happening...

Unless...................

Houston becomes a '3rd team' in a Howard deal.

except you're not getting any next? Deals like this don't just fall on your lap. This is as much value as anyone could possibly hope to get back for an aging Gasol. Dragic is still better than what we have at PG right now anyways.

You must fine settling for this mediocre cast. In which I'd say you're all alone.

We get a PG, serviceable PF, and a scoring punch off the bench. It's pretty foolish not to consider a trade like this.

Let's stop looking for an All Star Caliber PG, we need one that isn't terrible that's all. Fisher and Blake are terrible.

It's not a bad trade, it's more about timing... If Dwight is off the table and we haven't found our starting PG yet and the Deadline is like tomorrow.... I do the deal and don't look back...

But right now, I think it's better to wait unless they want to include Lowry.

How would a 3 way work anyway? Dwight/filler/Scola to LA, Gasol to HOU, and Bynum/Martin/filler to Orlando?

Dwight/Nelson/Scola/Lee to LA
Bynum/Martin/Dragic to Orl
Pau/Hedu to Houston

Works in TC... But Houston wouldn't go for that unless they could amnesty Hedu or were compensated in some other way...

Or...

Dwight/Nelson/Scola/Lee to LA
Bynum/Martin/Dragic to Orl
Pau/Blake/Redick to Hou

I understand Pau has a monster contract. But paying a guy like Scola essentially 10 mil a year, well, he is not a 10 mil a year player. He is a solid PF but getting guys like Martin and Dragic as the consolation for the difference between Pau and Scola is not just worth it. What you did what just show that Scola makes less money but its because he is nowhere near the player Pau is. They could save money by trading Pau for a bunch of expiring contracts too. Trading Pau for lesser talent in quantity would make the Lakers have a similar structure as other teams except worse. I think you should ask yourself why the Rockets would do it and then understand their reasoning for doing the deal is the same reasoning the Lakers should avoid a Dragic/Martin/Scola combo.
