Kobe on if he thinks LBJ/Wade are rivals

“I get up for everybody just the same, to be honest. It’s hard for me to turn my meter up any higher than it normally is. At this point my rivals, in terms of what I have left to accomplish in my career, [left the game] when Magic [Johnson] and Michael [Jordan] retired in ‘98. That’s it. In terms of what I’m looking to accomplish, that’s about it. What I have left to accomplish, those players retired a long time ago. On Wade: He’s too young. He’s too young. When I came into the league, he was in elementary school.”
— Kobe when asked if he’ll play harder against the Heat, and if LeBron/Wade are his rivals.

Boston are our only rivals. Period.
Lakers are every other teams rivals. Everybody wants to beat the Lakers badly each and every game.

Gotta agree with him. Sure there has been team rivals (Spurs. Celtics) but he hasn't had an individual rival the way Wilt had Russell or Magic had Bird.

I think in Kobe's mind he is chasing ghosts. Ghosts he may or may not ever depose. In his remaining days we will chronicle his journey for future generations. LeBron and the Wades of the NBA aren't his concern. Kobe is playing against iconic players like those of West, Erving, and Bird of the long gone eras of the NBA. When it is all said and done Kobe will be in the part of the Hall of Fame that holds the place up. His story will be etched in the stone pillars. His legend will be shaped in gold and metal, encased in glass, gathering dust in the loneliest part of the Hall of Fame. Amongst the NBA's most mythological, It is here where souls seldom reach you will find his lore. The tales of James and Wade however epic their names may NOW seem will NEVER, EVER reside in the place of the Hall of Fame where Kobe's legend will inevitably rests.
ALL HAIL.

Magic had Bird. Wilt had Russell. Jordan had... the Pistons Team (Joe Dumars), whats his name in Utah, Reggie Miller, John Starks. Kobe's like Jordan that he's out lived his rivals.

Kobe is too old with 16 years in the league to be interested in the rivalries with what he needs to prove to all of the accomplishments he have. It is pure and simple reason of why he doesn't have one. His main objective is to get the rings as much as he can with the father time being inevitable. If he came into the league in 2003 then they are his rivals.
