Lakers / Celts have discussed Rondo recently - Article

The Lakers and Boston Celtics hate each other, an animosity that extends into the front offices of the two teams. ...

Not really.

The teams talked last week about a trade for Celtics guard Rajon Rondo, though nothing was close to accomplished and discussions dried up.

The Lakers are unwilling to trade Pau Gasol for Rondo, making a deal with Boston unlikely before the trade deadline Thursday.

"Unless they give up Gasol, they're not going to get a top-level point guard," said a person familiar with the situation but not authorized to discuss it publicly.

Rondo had 24 points and 10 assists in the Lakers' 97-94 victory Sunday over Boston at Staples Center. Gasol had 13 points and 13 rebounds.

A more likely acquisition would be Minnesota Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley, though the Lakers weren't willing to give up the first-round draft pick they received from Dallas in the Lamar Odom trade, among other unspecified conditions currently holding up a Beasley deal.

Beasley, 23, is expendable because the Timberwolves are giving more time to rookie Derrick Williams.

The second pick in the 2008 draft, Beasley is earning $6.3 million in the last year of his contract. He is averaging 11.6 points and 4.7 rebounds but is prone to outbursts on offense, recently scoring 27 against the Clippers.

- Interesting it says Beasley is more likely to happen.

I just want SOMETHING to happen. The anticipation is killing me inside.

So we're looking for an all star PG in return for Pau yet we don't want Rondo.

Maybe they want one who doesn't have a terrible attitude and can actually shoot free throws

How many of those with all star talent are available?

Also, too much gets made of Rondo's attitude.

I guess im in the minority for the pau rondo trade...Guy has passion, rebounds, distributes, and gets physical on D. I can see Rondo/Kobe/Beas/?/Bynum being lock down.

I'm on the Rondo side, too, but am still not convinced Celtics would do a Rondo-Pau trade.

Rondo is definitely one of the best pg's in the league. Even better at actually running a basketball team. He is the next best option after C.Paul, D.Williams and maybe only a couple others. However, if that move is ever made, I think its based on the future, and having a one two punch of him and Bynum. I dont think that move makes you a better team right now.

As much as I believe Rondo's reported attitude is overstated, the only way his attitude could be a hindrance is if you're trying to build around him and expecting him to lead that team. We've got two more guaranteed years of Bryant plus however many years he signs on for after his deal (if he decides to play past his contract's expiration), along with Bynum. I think we'd be fine. And if they're willing to include Bass then you'd be misguided not doing the deal.

According to that link we're the ones that don't want a Rondo-Pau trade, and I don't know why.

Yeah I read it, but I'm inclined to believe that it might just be an empty rumor or false info being fed thru the source as opposed to inside info. Rondo's age and contract would be too much to pass up.

So, what do want? Keep Gasol and bring Rondo? Wht did they offer? Metta and Blake?
No way that will happen... Keep dreaming Mitch.

I dn't think Rondo solve our problems but It will get better.

man, the anticipation for something to happen is killing me... i don't understand what the hold up is if boston is willing to do a pau/rondo trade... maybe they want to keep our big three, get rondo and lose nothing???

Im sure the Lakers front office is gonna stand pat til Orlando officially tells them we are trading Dwight elsewhere or we are not trading him at all. Once the Dwight situation is resolved one way or another, thats when I think the Lakers will make a move that has probably been on the table but had to be put on the backburner. I also have a feeling it will be something not involving any of the big 3. A slight upgrade at point guard perhaps.

I see the Bucks have made Brandon Jennings available. Would you guys do that for Gasol. I personally would as long as they don't want us to take back Jackson.

I'd rather have Pau and Sessions than Rondo and any PF that we can get

Green font?

I'd take Jennings,Ilyasova,Delfino and their 1st round pick(totally unprotected) though+dumping Walton's or Blake's contract

I'm on this boat. It's hard to find a PF with Pau's ability that not only relinquish's his role to Bynum but relishes in the fact that Drew does the dirty work.
