I know some of us in here don't like him but I think we can bring him in as our offense coach, if we upgrade our lead guard spot. I'm dreaming now: Bu what if we get Felton and bring in D'Antoni would that get him back on track if we get him. I just want to see where everyone else stands on this subject

A) too expensive
B) we are a terrible fast break team
C) we suck ass at 3 point shooting
D) just no!

Would love it if he'd be willing to take a pay cut but not gonna happen. With a better PG this squad could actually be a very good fast break team. Pau runs the floor great, so does Barnes. Also if he came in as in Assisstant, that's exactly what he'd be...he wouldn't completely transform the offense, just implement some of his ideas as a part of Mike Brown's system.

I think he'll take the rest of the season off and then sign in Portland when Nate McMillan gets fired.

d'antoni's offensive system/principles compromises everything that mike brown's defensive system is all about. the two simply cannot be combined. it also has no way of being adapted to the lakers talent anyway.

He sucked in New York with tons of offensive talent - Thread closed.

Whaa? When he has the personal suited for his system (speedy point guard, a superstar PG, athletic players), his teams are at the top. If Amare and Diaw was never suspended, he would still be in Phoenix, coaching Nash and Amare.

Dantoni could make Goudelock a all star. All bs aside. Just for fun, what would DFish's stats be on Dantoni's system? I would sat 14ppg, 7apg and 42% threes.

D'Antoni - Nash = garbage.

i you watch a knicks games the only thing he says during games is

"GO GO GO!!!!"

Someone scored on them on a key possession then the PG looks at him and he says:

"go go go!!!!"

Lakers should have kept the old offense and just redone the new defense. Brown's offense has been a fail. We just started scoring again because the players took more control.

Kobe is diagraming last second plays. Are Fish and Kobe the coaches of the Lakers?

Not that I disagree in general about Mike D, but most coaches don't say brilliant, insightful things during games. Even in huddles, it's usually about motivation, getting back onto the same page, going back to what they talked about pre-game or at the half or whatever... All the prep comes before, at the time, it's just "get it done." Listen to Pops and Rivers and hell, even Phil, right?

Anyway, Mike D blows, but this isn't a reason why.

More importantly, though, as someone else noted, his offense relies upon that which the Lakers do not have, which is good 3pt shooting and fastbreak personnel.

EDIT: Well, that and a really good PG+PF/C tandem that can run PnR. The Lakers apparently now have that after scamming successfully for Sessions, which was a really wicked move.

After Lin emerged we got a good look at Dantoni's "system". Basically it calls for a big to come out past the 3 point line for a high pick & roll, after which the PG tries to penetrate. The other big is usually at the elbow on the baseline ready to cut in, and the SG & SF are on the wings/in the corners waiting for a kick-out. Sometimes the 2nd big is also on the perimeter if they're a decent 3 point shooter.

So the PG either hits the roller, hits the other big when they cut, goes to the hoop themselves, or passes to one of the perimeter guys who can catch & shoot, rotate it quickly to another shooter if the defense closes too quickly, or fake & drive.

Basically though its all on the PG & that basic pick to get it started. Once the PG is penetrating, its on them to use their judgement & skill in finding an open guy or finish themselves. The C is featured pretty highly, as they need to set a strong pick and have good hands to catch bounce passes/oops and finish in traffic. Everyone else is reduced to a catch & shoot roleplayer.

If the PG isn't brilliant, it won't work. If the C can't set good picks or be a strong scoring threat inside, it won't work, and if the SG/SF and (probably) PF aren't good perimeter shooters, it won't work. Do the Lakers want Kobe standing in the corner like Kapono? That's what Dantoni did with Melo, and we can see how well that worked out. He doesn't know how to adapt his system to star players who don't fit the bill. The Clippers personnel might fit a Dantoni offense, but the Lakers - no way.
