My work comp is too slow for live stream. I'll need a recap later.

He said he didn't talk to Kobe, and yes he's worried about the chemistry

Derek wasn't warned that this trade was coming, Mitch sounds really torn about trading him.

Damn...it's obvious Mitch didn't want to have to trade Fish. Nature of the beast, but still sux.

Kupchak is a BEAST man. I know it's an emotional time for everyone with Fish being traded and all but that guy is straight business. He puts guys like Otis Smith who do nothing but kiss ass to shame.

Just goes to show you guys that the FO doesn't care what Kobe wants, no one player is bigger than the organization. Only when you start trying to cater everything around your star player do you end up like the Cleveland's and Orlando's of the world.

But I hope Fisher comes back with the organization in some capacity.

Times like this I'm thankful the Lakers FO is straight business. No time to deal with egos and prima donnas. Win some s*** or GTFO.

He says he doesn't think it's productive to keep a coach in the loop on trade talks day to day

They're probably the most business oriented group in the league. There are a bunch of prima donnas and air heads out there as well but the Lakers have this stuff measured incredibly well. Kupchak has improved drastically over the years. The contracts he gives out are far smaller, he uses his assets efficiently...

-Doesn't know who fills that leadership role yet.
Asked if Andrew could... he said... "he could grow into that roll. Kobe won't, he is what he is. Kobe is a follow me or get out of the way. Fisher was a hand on the shoulder kind of guy. Who knows who fills that now"

-asked if the new rules make things tougher:
"yes, tougher for everyone"

-We are a more balanced team. Had too many SF's feels 4-5 bigs is a better roster

-Draft picks... doesn't think we find a player as good as Sessions in the draft.

--Jerry not involved in the big push to get players over the last few weeks. He and Jim worked hard for the last week to figure out the best options.

--Blake and Ramon could be on court together. Ramon can guard 2's with his strength (I didn't hear him mention if Ramon starts or not... came in a little late)

--Was Mike Brown involved much. "We don't think it's productive to keep a coach in the loop on a daily basis. He was consulted about what things could improve, but not names or specific personnel"

--Would the franchise honor Fish in any way despite lack of gaudy numbers. "We could retire his number... worthy of consideration"

--has not spoken with Fish

--Is this the last of Fish with the organization? "We could sign him back in two years.
After basketball... he'll be successful in whatever he does, so maybe.

^^^
Thanks for the recap. The adrenaline from today's news has finally left my system, I'm gonna miss Fish terribly!! So many memories. But in order for us to keep being a championship caliber squad, decisions needed to be made. Forget the criticism Mitch, did a great job with what you have to work with. Maybe in the off-season there'll be more time to change personnel. But overall, I feel very confident this team can compete and stay on top in the West.

Of all the GMs I've heard talk from pretty much any sport, I like hearing what Mitch has to say the best...

He has the best balance of logic, gamesmanship, financial sense, and compassion out of any of the other GMs out there IMO.

I really wish the Lakers would do something for the role players who went above and beyond over the years. The Staples Center rafters shouldn't just be limited to HOF players. Guys like Fish, Coop and Scott have earned their keep IMO.
