Fisher Buyout - going to OKC

So as far as I understand Rockets want to buy Fisher out and Lakers cannot sign him this year. Can Fisher come back to the Lakers as an assistant or some sort of a consultant this year? I think it would be great to get him back in this role since his locker room presence and experience is his most value contribution to the Lakers at this point of his career. Would Fisher have to retire to do this?

I don't think he's ready to retire yet, I see him playing the rest of this season and playing next year as well... after that he'll retire

I think Laker ownership would be against bringing Fish back in any capacity.......he smells too much like some guy named Phil Jackson!

Fish will go to the Heat and help LeBron mentally prepare for the 4th quarter.
DOH move for $.
We gave up Fish (not for Beasley or basketball reasons) but money. We also gave up our 1st. We also gave up our ability to make a trade w/ our 2013 1st in te off-season during Kobe's last run years.
A great move to steal Sessions, followed up by a panic move to unload Fisher.

I don't know if the rules would prevent Fisher from coming back to LA in some sort of staff capacity, but if the opportunity is there I sure hope both sides can agree.
that would be a win win for both sides. honestly Fish needs to retire. if he wants to play for another team then he won't be anymore than a Luke Walton bench warmer even in a bad team, let alone on a contender. If he goes to the Heat there is no way he gets play time. he will be getting paid for his locker room presence only. Might as well be with the Lakers then since his wife's family is from LA.

Who in the world is going to sign him if he's bought out? I don't think any of the contenders would (for his leadership), and the rest of the league just has no business giving it any thought.
I sincerely hope he can come back here as an assistant. It's where he belongs and where he can make the biggest contribution.

@franblinebury: Rockets will buy out Derek Fisher, declare the future is in front of them.

Maybe he can be the official Laker supporter, kinda like "Clipper Darrell". Only he'll be known as "Laker Derek". He'll be in the locker room offering advice, but he won't be allowed to touch the ball.

Memphis can sign him. Conley needs a backup badly. They are looking at Arenas but don't want him to AI them. Derek is from Little Rock which is hours away and why his mom and family are always at every game there when he played. It would be like the Battier trade for them last year, totally safe as Derek can play 15 hard minutes, hit big shots, and offer championship knowledge and leadership to a locker room and team on the verge

That's where the Fisher to Memphis argument dies.

We already had Lamar ruin Dallas' first half of the season, maybe Fisher can do us a solid and ruin another contender's second half.
In all seriousness though where ever he goes I hope it's just a one year deal so he can come back soon either as a "end of the bench" backup guard for the vet min or in a coaching position.

In the past players were allowed to return to the team that traded them after 30 days. So my question is when this this change?

Remember a few months ago there was this thing called the lockout...
It's part of the new CBA

Derek should retire he has had a long successful career. I doubt any team would sign him, he is an absolute liability on the floor. As for leadership presence he needs to look to be an assistant coach. Other than that no need to feel sorry or bad for an extremely rich millionaire that had the privilege to play for the Lakers for that many years. I also agree that Jim Buss may not want him around as an assistant as he was probably the one that smells like Phil. Perhaps he was the one suggesting that we returned to the triangle as that slow paced system heavily favors his game.

It would be great for him to come back as an assistant and teach the young PGs on our team. Not sure what hes up to now, believe he still wants to play a couple more seasons.
